Chris,
You've lost 20 already and I know 1 lb for the week is disappointing, esp when you ran so much, but you're still losing and that's awesome. Sometimes I think it takes a week or two for things to settle out, so you may lose a few next week - just a glass or two of water more or less can make it up or down a pound, so don't get discouraged. You're almost there!

Thanks jamjat! I'll get there sooner or later... I suppose I didn't put it all on overnight, so shouldn't expect it to come off overnight either!

Good luck with your goals too!

- Chris

Thanks Chris. 3 years ago I was at 220 (I'm 6 ft) and I lost 54 lbs over about 9 months with a combination of eating better (and less) and running so I know what you're going through! It can be very slow at times. Now, over the past 6 months, I've gained back 10 of those pounds so I'm trying to lose them again - it sure takes constant vigilance. And after having babies it seems easier than ever to gain a few here and there (and harder to lose them!) It sounds like you are running a LOT - maybe rather than pile on the miles try to shake up the routine a bit - do two shorter runs a day, morning and evening, or bike or row or swim a few days for a few weeks, or add some weights or something. It's easy for the body to get in a rut and expect all that exercise - and you don't want to train yours into thinking you'll run 80 miles every week!!!

Well, I run ultramarathons, so the training is actually pretty inline with what I should be doing. I average about 55-60 mpw, this was just a long week (last long week in a training cycle before a taper to the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon). The cornerstone of ultra training is back to back long days, which were 29 and 21 mile mountain trail runs last weekend (plus another 20 miler and some scattered short stuff earlier in the week). I'll probably actually do a couple more 80+ weeks before a 50 mile mountain run in late September...

I do often double up my runs morning/evening though... it's the only way to get them in sometimes. It's hard to find 5 hour blocks of time to get in long runs during the week (tonight is a 4 hour 21 mile trail run that will go from 8pm to midnight)! Adding weights is a really excellent idea. I need to find the time to work that in... that's a great way to lose weight.

54lbs is a VERY impressive loss...great job!

Wow - now I feel silly trying to give you advice - I can't imagine doing ultras. I'll stick to "hang in there - it will happen" from now on!!! One thing I read on another thread that I thought was interesting was to get a body fat scale and use that rather than pounds - I'm sure you have a good sense of what weight you want to get to, but if you are running that much and not losing too many more pounds, if your body fat is in the right place, that just might be where your body wants to be. Keep cool on those long runs - just doing 6 miles this morning was enough to wipe me out in this humidity.

ok, Friday weigh in - first week done:
SW 177
CW 173
GW 167
Probably didn't really lose 4, since I'm pretty dehydrated with this heat, but at least it must have been a few...

Today's weigh-in.

Male
33
Week of: August 6, 2007
Beginning Weight: 223
Current Weight: 200
Goal Weight: 195
Last week loss: 3

Down three pounds last week. Weekly mileage was 52.6 miles. Doesn't seem to be much correlation between running mileage and loss for me... did try to eat better last week, which (I think) was probably more important.

Keep up the good work everyone!

- Chris

PS: Don't feel silly giving me advice jamjat... I could use all the good advice people have and it's always much appreciated! I may run a fair number of miles, but I'm still an old fat slow guy trying to lose weight!!

Awesome job on the 3 lbs Chris. I do think the eating has more to do with things than the exercising. I'm hoping so since between the heat and the pesky children having no activities my running is way down this week...

Wow I lost 3lbs this week (well, its actually 1 1/2 weeks), but since I physically typed in my CW and GW last week I have made a dietary effort this week ..... ACCOUNTABILITY! Even though I personally don't know any of you, the fact that I have put it out there means I have something to strive for and you guys make me accountable for it.

CW 135
GW 133 (may need to re-assess next week)!

Down 1 more pound, SW 163, CW 162, LaborDay GW 155, GW 135. I didn't weigh in last week. I'm heading in the right direction. 17 lbs lost, goal 3lbs this week. I'd love to have that 20lb mark hit by next weekend. I'll go for it, but as always...I'll take anything . I refuse to be disappointed with a lb lost. I work for it, but I also know that if I REALLY worked hard I could do it faster. Refocus time.

Good job all!

Male
33
Week of: August 13, 2007
Beginning Weight: 223
Current Weight: 201
Goal Weight: 195

Up one pound last week. My weekly mileage was only 17 miles since I'm tapering for the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon this coming weekend. Things should get back on track after these two light weeks (I hope!).

Keep up the good work everyone!

Oh no - I gained 2 lbs the last two weeks, and I'd been eating healthier! This is driving me crazy. Maybe I need to duct tape my mouth shut....

Start weight 177
2 weeks ago 173
Now 175
Ever elusive goal weight 167
I have been 167 for a year, and crept up over the last 6 months, so I know I can maintain there - I'm not sure what the problem is...
