I'm with obsessor. I've done workouts on tracks, sidewalks, trails, mountains, hills, rugby fields, baseball diamonds...

Almost always trails unless raining very hard, then treadmill. Easy to kill yourself on the treadmill though at 11mph...LOL.

Back in high school, we would do things to get cops to chase us (on foot) when we were bored. I would do that again before I would do speedwork on a treadmill..

Silly golfer, golf courses are for cross country meets....

My last speed session was on the road. There were cars and stuff, it was kinda fun.

In high school we did cross country hill work in the cemetery. That was always fun.

A track is nice when you have one open to the public close.

did you really type that??? you are kidding right? running a given pace on a treadmill teaches you nothing but how to keep up with how fast the belt is moving. don't get me wrong, the treadmill has uses for training purposes, but teaching someone pacing is definitely not one of them.

speedwork: paved bike path or track

Most of my life it was the track. Lately I've been using GPS on the roads because I don't live that close to a track.

Track. I've run on a treadmill once years ago. I was thinking of joining a gym this past winter to use if the weather got nasty, but I didn't and it turned out that I only missed one speedworkout.

Also hills and trails for speedwork.

Track, roads, trails. Never treadmill, although it works well for hills in a pinch.

You'll be even more kidded to learn that, many years ago, I practiced running a 7min/mile for my first 5 miler on the treadmill. I ran an even 7min/mile pace in the race. Funny how that worked as a training tool... perhaps you get to know how it feels to run at a specific pace? Yes, I know a treadmill is not the same as running outside but it's a reasonable facsimile when the need arises.

When the treadmill is going 11mph it it certaining encourages me keep pace with the belt. Flying off the back is way too embarrassing. Joev9: try it, perhaps the fall will knock some sense into your head.
