Hot Yoga, practiced in a heated room, this sequence of 26 poses is always done in the same order and beginning students catch on easily. This practice uses heat to stretch more safely and aims to detoxify the body with sweating and poses that stimulate blood to glands and organs.

It may be Hatha Yoga.

That's Bikram yoga. I think the room gets heated to 110. It is definitely a tough workout.

I wanted to add that this yoga is very good for helping with muscle problems. Last year I was in PT for ankle tendonitis. They estimated 6 weeks and i wasn't supposed to run. I did 2 Bikram classes and it cured the problem. The PT was shocked.

Poop! I'm feeling a little sick today too. They will probably get good laughs from a marathon girl trying to do yoga. I will try it anyway. Worse scenario I walk out.

No, don't do that. A lot of people have trouble with it. Take a LOT of water with you and an extra towel to put on your yoga mat. It will get drenched. I got dizzy a couple times with some of the poses and had to stop. You rest for a couple minutes and start again. The studio that I went to had great instructors and they will tell you what to do if you have problems.

it is only bikram if the instructor has been certifed by bikram. otherwise it is just hatha that follows bikram's method of instruction.

and it is a tough workout. i do it 3-4 times/work and it is always a challenge. and like chele said, don't give up. take a rest on your mat and when you're ready, get into the next pose. hopefully your teacher will give you some instructions as well. good luck and let us know how it goes.

I know I am not coordinated enough for dance. Tomorrow I try my first yoga class. It is in a heated studio. I'll report how it goes.<HR>

Barre and floor exercises are not really "dancing," they're just the strengthening and stretching moves that dancers happen to use to prepare them to dance. It doesn't require any more coordination than yoga (particularly those moves that involve standing on one leg).

Glad you didn't have any difficulty. I was surprised when you mentioned it was only 45 minutes because at the studio I go to Bikram yoga is 1 1/2 hrs so maybe it is just yoga in a heated room. If you want something longer, try to find a Bikram studio.

As a runner, you might be interested in Flexible Warrior from Karen Dubbs. It's yoga specifically for runners and triathletes. It's 3 30 minute workouts: strength, energy and flexibility.
