Is 2 and a half months long enough out to seek surgery?

I have made a few posts now I know about my knee problem, but I have been out since may 23 with some sort of knee problem, an inflamation like bursitis or tendonitis although I am beginning to think it could be something else, maybe cartilage problems, I have been having PT for about 2 months now but they never actually diagnosed me, have only been saying I have a patallar issue and been doing lots of strengthening, icing, taping and what have you.

Problem is it really hasn't worked that well and returning to running proved too difficult. The knee pain is still there and today after walking home my knee went all red and hot. I have tried icing after runs and every night but it doesnt really fix the problem, my physios keep telling me to run on it and do the strengthening but I cant run on it because it hurts too much and I know in my head that if I ran mroe than a few more times it would just get worse.

I have been doing all sorts of work on my ITB, glutes and more recently quads which has really helped my strength inbalance, but the knee pain is still there so...the one thing I do know is I am almost out of free PT treatments so I will have to start paying soon, and if thats the case I will definately see a specialist.

What do you guys think? It doesn't seem to be getting better. I have been told by a few people it could be cartilage issues.

I think you should go to a sports or orthopedic surgeon who should be able to diagnose your problem correctly. They"ll probably suggest surgery.

Have you been to an orthopedic? I guess I'm wondering why you're thinking about surgery for something when you don't even know what is wrong. Forgive me if I've missed a post somewhere along the way that explains further.

PT is great if you've gotten an accurate diagnosis, but physical therapists have their limitations. If you haven't, go see an orthopedic surgeon. Despite the name, they do not just deal with surgical issues. Most of their daily work is garden variety sprain, strain, break, etc. Find one that runs and/or specializes in athletic injuries. Don't leave until you get a definitive diagnosis.

I wasted 4 months figuring out that there's much more to knee pains than ITBS, etc etc. Had to have my torn menicus lopped. Don't waste time. Consult a good ortho
