Fiber - besides fruits and veggies, Fiber One Honey Clusters cereal is really tasty and doesn't taste like it's good for you. It has 13g fiber per serving.

Re: Embarrassing problem on long runs
the only time I've ever had this problem is when I eat TOO MUCH fiber. Fiber moves things through the digestive track more quickly. My most regular and easy eliminations have been when I've reduced my fiber intake, usually by cutting back on the sprouted grain bread. Maybe we're each individuals, but this is why low carb diets can lead to constipation. If you want to reduce the bulk and frequency of your bm's, reducing fiber is the way to go. Do what you want though. eAt earlier nd increase your fiber. See if that helps. IF it doesn't, try the opposite approach. By doing the above I found relief.

Yep..Fiber one Honey Clusters are great. I eat it almost every morning. helps with weight loss too. I also buy double fiber wheat bread now. I hate fiber supplements.

Re: Embarrassing problem on long runs
Running just makes you get arthritis in your knees....then you can't squat to go on the side of the road in an emergency while running 40 miles on a sunday morning when you should be in church anyway.....

just a little joke - but i did hear that **** (sorry) about my knees twice last weekend.....this is a thoroughly disgusting topic, by the way....

Re: Embarrassing problem on long runs
You are not alone. I have been caught with my pants down, so embarrassing, and have had to pick my leaf carefully. (Often I think if the a non-runner knew the trouble I have to go through, they'd REALLY think us runners are nuts.)

I try to not eat any of the following two days before LR:
dairy
junk food, especially chocolate
high fiber foods.

Fruit the day before LR works well for me. In morning, two days before LR I take a fiber supplement.

During a few LRs and day of marathon, right before running I take an immodium A.D. Ran two marathons, no pit stops.

Re: Embarrassing problem on long runs
Oh man, i feel ya. It sometimes happens when i do my 5 miler. But, it had two bathrooms along the route in parks, so if i feel like i have to go earlier, or later, i can choose = P

But on my 3 milers, oh man, it ruins my entire run. Usually gets to the point where it's burning. Then i have to stop and walk it off, then start, then stop etc...

I get up an hour to 90 minutes before the LR, and drink some coffee. Nothing gets things going like some strong Starbucks.

Re: Embarrassing problem on long runs
I usually get up an hour before a run, chug a lot (usually two glasses) of water, and go sit on the toilet until I'm ready to go.

We should come home from far, from adventures, and perils, and discoveries every day, with new experience and character."

Re: Embarrassing problem on long runs
I use to have the same horrible problem....like every freakin run. As one poster stated, I have conditioned myself to "go" at certain times...6:00am and 12:00 noon after lunch. I don't know how this exacty works, but it did for me. Yeah, sometimes just hold it longer, and your body adjusts.

Good luck...this can be a real annoying problem.
