Re: Starting a streak-running regime with my 8-year-old
Good work...I think its great that he likes it as long as the distance is short. My 3.5 year old "did" his first race last week. Really, he ran/walked the first 1/2 mile of a 5k, then we walked back to the start. He has been asking and asking me when he can do a race, so I found this one for him. He LOVED it. We're going to another one this weekend.

And here is my video account of his race:

Re: Starting a streak-running regime with my 8-year-old
Here we go another OCD runner, streaks, please run and enjoy the ride. Make your kid run? Yes a good idea since most kids sit on their rear ends playing video games and using the computer and watching TV, kids don't play outside anymore. But making a big deal about running everyday is well odd. This is from someone who has been running since grade 6 and is now over 50.

Oh yea I have run 10 +years in a row its not a big deal in my eyes, we eat everyday, we sleep everyday so sure you could run everyday. However when you do get something like the REAL INFLUENZA in the winter yep ya gotta break the streak.

Re: Starting a streak-running regime with my 8-year-old
Your boy must be getting very fit. He will be a top runner someday if he keeps this up.

I was looking at my logs a few months ago and was surprised to find out that I had run something like 130 of 133 days. It didn't seem like I was running almost everyday.

I think because the distance is so short you can finish it in 15 minutes...thats not that much time so I would continue as long as your son wants to.

I am enjoying your updates and would just like to say 'well done'. Although your 'short' run (3 miles) is my long run at the moment!!!

Re: Starting a streak-running regime with my 8-year-old
I think this is awesome! I grew up running with my dad (though never for 2 months straight!) and i think that it always gave us a way to connect, especially given the fact that most 15-21 year old girls don't have a lot in common with their dad.

If he likes it and your dr gave you the go-ahead, i say run on

Having grown up in the days when we literally played outside from dawn to dusk in the summertime, I think it's great! And Q--your video is adorable!

Re: Starting a streak-running regime with my 8-year-old
Wow! My 8 year old has expressed an interest in joining my 11-year old and I with C25K. We aren't running the distances that you all are, but we do go out every other day at this point. She joined us once this week, we are in week 2 and so the time spent running is quite minimal actually.

But, she lasted about 7 minutes, the warmup and then 2 minutes of running/walking. She was discouraged, but I told her to just keep walking. I'd prefer that she walk instead of run at this point.

My 11-year old is better than any podcast, we chat about his day and what is going on in his world. I love that time, considering that most of the time we're too busy to just chat.

I think I'll stick to walking with the 8 year old for now and maybe once I've completed the c25k program, I can help her to do it a few days a week. For now, I'm being selfish and concentrating on me.

Re: Starting a streak-running regime with my 8-year-old
Doing the C25K with your 8 year old is fine, streak running with him would be excessive and possibly damaging to the growth plates in his knees. Moderation is the key.
