aches and pains

i know the old phrase no pain no gain but im wondering since i recently just started running like on a daily basis vs. every other day and increased my mileage and my speed how bad should my body be feeling? most of my pain today is in my calf muscles but last nights run left my calf, ankles and shins on fire and also some pain in my right hip thats been there for a while now, i can always work thru on my runs i just ignore them but when im done i really feel it, is this a phase of conditioning or is it something i should have looked at? i really dont want a doctor to ground me for days if i cant run i tend to get depressed.

Re: aches and pains
Sounds to me a lot like OVERUSE.

The sore shins and ankles are telltale signs (at least for me) that I've been overdoing it. In addition to stretching your calves (you have been stretching them, right?) you can do toe lifts (Google can probably get you a better description than I can give you) to help with the shin splints. Ibuprofen and ice should help with the ankles, IN ADDITION TO REST.

In my experience, it's best not to mess with hip pain either. I've been struggling through hip pain since January, and I just keep chasing it around. It's tough to catch.

Is it safe to guess that your hip pain is on the outside? ITB? There are some stretches that will help you out if you get to it quickly. I like the one where you stand with one leg crossed over the other (both feet on floor, but left foot on right side etc.), then just lean to the side that stretches. Reverse and get the other side.

If this isn't all that helpful, give us some more info on exactly what hurts and what movements make it hurt. I have a link to an injury diagnosing site, but it must be on my computer at work. If I can remember I'll post it tomorrow.

Good luck, and you should really take at least one day off. It sucks I know, but it's better than being hurt.
