"Old" Lydiard Books

Not sure if I am breaking rules here. But here goes !!
I love browsing second hand book stores and online Book Auctions looking for 'old' Running Books. Particularly Arthur's stuff.
Anyway I have managed to pick up a copy of the original "Run to the Top" (1962) with Dust cover, plus a copy of "Running with Lydiard" (1978) with Dust cover. This one is a US (Runners World printed) copy.
If anyone is interested in these books fire me an email.

Only problem is postage from here in NZ to the US is usually in the vicinity of US$13

Cheers Team.

I have an autographed copy of Running the Lydiard Way.
Lydiard came to a track meet in Red Deer, Alberta in 78 or 79. He as great. He talked about running/training -he was sure good to meet in person. Brian Rhodes was involved with bringing him over I think. Rhodes trained there for six years
and was 3rd in the NZ mile championships behind
Walker, Quax. Cheers from Canada

I got mine signed by Richard Gibbens.

Kim,
I've got a copy of all of these books so I'm not putting in dibs. But if you come across any issues of New Zealand Runner from earlier than 1991, that's when my subsription started, I would buy any that were available.

I bet it's a fraud. If not, then he simply did not understand what h was signing.

No dibs. Not studying the old man yet. Give me some time here.

I have been wondering about this for a long time: why is it so difficult to get books by Arthur Lydiard? I am asking this the guys and gals behind the Lydiard foundation (Nobby?): are you having any plans to publish Lydiard's titles again since the original editions all appear (well, more or less) to be sold out for years? Or maybe some new titles? If I understood it correctly from some of the posts on CoolRunning, Lydiard himself was not overly enthusiastic about writing books, but still, I think these books would be highly appreciated by runners all over the world.

I am not sure of the details regarding Arthur's publishing rights. Nobby may, and possibly could answer. Garth Gilmour the writer of those books is still very much alive.

Thank you Kim. You are looking at these titles also from the collector's point of view, I understand this. However, I am interested in Lydiard's techniques as a wannabe runner looking for concise information and guidelines. Not that you, Nobby and others have not provided plenty of these in various threads, which you definitely have (thanks!), but you know, it is scattered all over the place and for folks like me it would be nice to have the gist of it packed in a single package or two. Not necessarily written by Arthur himself, of course. His books are just not easy to obtain. I am aware that it is possible to buy used copies from certain sources, although sometimes at crazy prices. Unlike the books by Daniels, Pfitzinger, Galloway, Higdon, Maffetone, and others (I do have books of the first three) which are easily available everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, this is just an observation.

Just as a side note; I am not from the US, I am from Europe (from Slovenia to be precise).

Best regards

tomjar,
Your English is excellent. Did you study it or are you transplanted in Slovenia from an English speaking country?
Anyway, if you're looking for a book that explains the Lydiard method very well you might look for Ron Daws's "The Self Made Olympian." He did a second book, the title of which escapes me which was similar but I never read that one. The prices are probably lower than they are for Arthur's books. Also, some of Arthur's later books, e.g. "Running to the Top", as opposed to "Run to the Top" are more available and cheaper.

Kim & Nobby
Arthur Lydiard was here for a speaking engagement in the late1970's. You can still find copies of his books in second hand stores here as well. They usually come pretty cheap.
I was lucky to get an autograph from him when he was doing his tour up here. Lydiard really influenced my running career
and still does to this day. I use a lot of his knowledge to this
day. Nice to see you guys post here.

Cheers

PS. I deleted my previous post by accident.
