I have been wondering about this for a long time: why is it so difficult to get books by Arthur Lydiard? I am asking this the guys and gals behind the Lydiard foundation (Nobby?): are you having any plans to publish Lydiard's titles again since the original editions all appear (well, more or less) to be sold out for years? Or maybe some new titles? If I understood it correctly from some of the posts on CoolRunning, Lydiard himself was not overly enthusiastic about writing books, but still, I think these books would be highly appreciated by runners all over the world. <HR>
I am not sure of the details regarding Arthur's publishing rights. Nobby may, and possibly could answer. Garth Gilmour the writer of those books is still very much alive.
A few guys wrote to me some years ago and asked if I could get any of Arthur's early Books.
As I said I love second hand book stores and have always gone in looking for Arthur's stuff.
We also have a good online Auction Co here called "Trademe".
I have picked up a lot of books on that and am currently in a bidding war for a copy of "Run to the Top". (Jesse has first dibs if I am succesful).
I estimate I would have sent about 12 copies of "Run to the Top" to the US over the last 5 years. All in pretty good condition for 45 year old books

I managed to pick up a copy of "Run to the Top" once that he had signed. Copies like that fetch big Dollars now he has gone. Needless to say I did not sell that one !!!!
The problem I have is there is Sports book dealer who has no problem paying "over the odds" for Arthur's stuff and then charges huge amounts for the books as he "on sells". I have seen copies go for over $150, to whom I am not sure.
Luckily this guy cannot monitor every Auction for the many books (other sports) he wants so I manage to beat him to it occasionally.
I am not sure what the first Print run of "Run to the Top" in 1962 was. But here in NZ it was a standard in many homes where anyone was interested in Sport. I still have my copy from those days.
The last few I have bought have come from deceased estates and I would not be surprised if more don't come up for sale over the next few years.
