Marathon Trainers - Week of 16 December 2007

Hello!! Is there there anyone out there??

Hoping to see the usual cast of characters after the transition (Erica, Mrinertia, Bugs, P2R, Shannon, lots of folks I'm not mentioning :) ....)

Cold rainy Sunday here on the Atlantic coast. No run yesterday but last week was my highest mileage week ever at just under 40. Friday was 8 miles at probably HM pace.

Lots of folks not liking the new forums but there are some advantages such as the ability to post pictures. Posted this one for all those folks stuck in the snow in the Northeast. Or Alaska but the snow doesn't seem to stop her.

HI!!!! :D

I'm not sure how i'm feeling about all of this. I think I can handle the discussion boards but my darling fiance offered to write me a running log program so I don't have to use this one because i'm not really feeling it.

Anyway the running went ok this week. Not too many miles, but I was out 3 times. I've decided I'm joining a gym. A couple year ago in college I spent a good bit of time in the weight room at school and really enjoyed it. I also didn't mind the muscle definition I had. So I stumbled on this gym i was checking out for DF and really liked it. It catered toward the free weights but does have some cardio equipment. It has only been open two weeks. Anyway I'm thinking i would like to get back into lifting a little and it can't hurt my running i'm guessing. So I think i'm gonna sign up today and attempt 3x a week. So I'll be running 4, lifting 3... holy **** when did all this exercising happen?????????????????????

dgb2n - where on the atlantic are you? We are actually snow free but man the wind was harsh last night!

So this is the other side? Thanks for getting it started Dave. I will have to do something about the handle though. Apparently, P2R is available everywhere but here. Now I feel like a clone. Since my log hasn't been moved yet I will stick with it for now. As for the week, ice storm followed by snow storm. Used the screw shoes and got in nearly 60 miles but the change in running has me wondering how it will effect my times. Great for endurance, but the runs are slower and harder. As for the log, I have started a new one at Runningahead.

ShanGen: Good luck with the gym. Anything that keeps you getting out to work out is a good plan.

Yeah, not being able to review the topic is a pain. I use a tab browser (slimbrowser) so I am able to logon a second time in a new window and pull up the thread a second time. Then just toggle back and forth. Thanks for the heads up about the handle.

Well, this place is about a 8.5 on the suck-o-meter. It could be worse, but it would take some effort to make it so. I'd guess that about 2.3 of those points simply come from the fact that someone moved my cheese, but the rest stem from the fact that this sucks so far.

Had a light week during the first part of the week. Did 9.5 and 10 on Firday and Saturday respectively. It was tough towards the end on Saturday, but a good workout when all was said and done.

42nd POST!

OK, I got lost on the way, but I made it here. All this white hurts. Anybody checkout kick runners? I'm a happy hour runner and we're thinking of moving over that thread over there.

Ran 8 yesterday. Real good week of running for me. Last night I got a migraine, thought I was going to die. Will probably get on the TM later tonight, just making sure the headache is good and gone. Been making my racing schedule. I'm so excited. January 12K&4m, Feb 4 mile & 5K, March 4 mile, April 20K, May HM & 10K, June 8K, 10K, July 10K. and Aug HM. Fall marathon if spring training goes good. My main priority is the HM in May, and think the schedule looks good,

Dgb, Thanks for getting the thread started. Boy was I glad to see people I knew.

ShanGen, If you saw my exercise room you'd faint knowing I pay for gym membership too. I do it mostly for the pool. Warning, you 'may' not want to be weight training when you start your marathon training plan, or at least stop when your mileage builds. There are mixed opinions out there about it. I know I regret doing the hip flexor weights this last summer, but I turned into an exercise addict and you will be smarter than me. Enjoy the membership.

P2R, The ice/cold does slow you down. Stinks. You know last winter I ran slower all winter, and when it got nice out, suddenly I could run faster, and so I did (oh those runs felt good after running slow for so long) and then I hurt my feet. Not sure if the change of seasons was a factor or not, but this winter I'm trying to run inside some and make sure I keep my conditioned for the faster running instead of just building miles.

My physical therapist, the elite runner, takes a cut back week after EVERY week where she adds miles. I've seen her run fast on the trail, she runs like a rocket. Guessing 7:00 min miles. I've seen her do easy runs and she goes so very slow. Guessing 9:30-10:00 min miles. She's a sub-3 marathon runner. Just thought you would find that interesting.

You might like David Hays run log. It is an excel spread sheet which tracks your mileage, pace for that run, shoe mileage and weight if you wish. It will even predict your marathon pace if you run over 26.2 miles total for the week. Gives you daily, weekly, monthy and annual mileage. You have to re do it every Jan 1 though. It will also give you lifetime total mileage, but you need to transfer that number from previous years.

Or if you multisport http://www.tricats.org/triDocs/trilog.htm

10k race today. First rolling hills race. Another PR. Think I am built for shorter distances.

Hope Erika had another good marathon her 5th in 5 months.

ShanGen, Is your DF a techie? David Hayes spreadsheet is pretty good, and you can customize it. SportsTrack is open source and uses .Net. I'd like to be a contributing developer but just don't have the time. Really wish there was a watch that could log swimming laps and insert into the SportsTrack log. Seems like an obvious need. I would not go with an online log unless you can get the data in some standard format and store locally. You want to show your grand kids one day how many miles you ran.

Was thinking how wrong winter running pants are. They need to be a double layer in the thighs and butt, but single layer in the lower leg, and crotch. This way your legs stay warm in 0F but you don't have so much bulk.

Didn't Erika run her monthly marathon today?

Yes Erika ran her marathon today.

I am having a hard time finding the cool running forums now. It is hit or miss for me, sometimes I can find them, sometimes I just get frustrated.

Cash - i've jsut been going to the old site and clicking on the discussion link - you know where it gives you thread highlights.

Bugs - he develops financial software and enjoys a good project on the weekends. When i said I was going to go look for a new log online he jumped on the chance to make me one. I'm not going to turn it down!! So far so good! I can't wait to start using it!! The opensource stuff is nice, Brian tosses around the idea of getting involved everyonce in a while.

Hmmm, stopping for the marathon... forgot about that recommendation till you mentioned it... couldn't I just stay away from legs?? Well I will deal with that when the time comes I guess...

I'll stay here for now, unless it never really starts to feel better. I'm sure some of my disconnect is my resistance toward change. :p

I had to bookmark the Forums page. I will also bookmark the ActiveTrainer page for the log because I also have a hard time getting from here to there. Solved the mystery of my handle. I had an account with Active for race registrations that I used before the merge where I had called it. I guess what that means now is....I offically control my first "puppet".....Muhahahahahahaha! Checked for results for Erika and didn't see them posted yet. She was running in Olympia wasn't she? Time to go run this morning!

Found it. I hadnt been using the running logs since early in the year. Plan on starting that up next year, so I will check the new ones out. Or just go back to my spreadsheet tracking. And cant seem to log on under the email that I thought was tied to the coolrunning account.
