uneven shin pains-weird?

Hi All-
I appreciate so much ahead of time any help anyone can give me.
I am on week 4 of the C25k program and and really having a haard time with my shins. I have tried resting, icing, advil, arch supports, arch wrapping, & I was professionally fitted for my shoes and they are broken in from a previous go at running.
The "weird" thing about my shins is that my left shin hurts on the inside and my right shin hurts on the outside. What? Don't most people have them the same if they have shin splints? I am just to green at this and need to work it out? I do have tight calves and am really working on warming up and stretching and I never run on concrete.
Any suggentions are greatly appreciated.

Re: uneven shin pains-weird?
I't sounds to me like the pains you are experiencing with your shins & tight calves is normal adaptive stress pains. Although having never actually reviewed any of these "couch" to whatever distance training plans, I'm sure the approach to these training programs are very conservative. You should be slowly easing yourself into running, which I'm sure you are doing. Yes? Anytime you put a stress on the body that is not used to it, it cries out. I returned to running after taking 20 years off. For the first year (after resuming) I ran only 3 days a week. Could I have run more frequently? Sure. But in the three years of running this time, I've never missed 1 day of running because of pain or injury. In order to be a runner you have to run, but you can't run if your body is not adapting to the level of stress through proper recovery. Recovery is just as important the running itself.

Welcome to running. Ahhhhhhhh shin splints, what a wonderful virus.

Shin splints just do not go away if you keep running. Unfortunately, you will find that out shortly when you can't take another step.

Shin splints is very simple; too much too soon too quick too often. Very simple.

For shin splints to go away, you will need to crawl on a treadmill for a month or 2 at a ridiculous low speed. Your shins need to adapt. They will but only at a extremely slow pace.

Continue to stretch. Ice your shins 3 times daily.
