order of weekly runs?

Hi,
I am currently training for the NYC marathon and using the First program, 3 runs per week + cross training.
Does it matter what order you do the runs in?
Is it better to follow a long run by a tempo or interval workout?

If you are doing three runs per week the order will not matter.

But training for a Marathon on three runs per week? Sounds like madness to me - though I am sure there must be a few people out there somewhere who can hack it.
