Re: Why all the whining?

So the features of the running logs are a lot different? As much as I hate to admit it, CTW has a great point. And I guess you get what you pay for... ;)

I followed steps that I read on the site. If you got the email saying that your account has been switched over to active, it had a link that eventually led to this info (http://community.active.com/docs/DOC-1600):

What happened to my Cool Running log?
Your Running Log has moved to Active Trainer's Online Training
Calendar. With Active Trainer, you'll receive 24/7 online access to a
robust suite of online training tools, an easy-to-use calendar,
detailed training reports, and daily training reminders. You'll have
the opportunity to import your Cool Running data into Active Trainer.
More details at http://coolrunning.com/log/.
How do I transfer my data and what data will transfer?
We have made all attempts to make the Cool Running data log migration
process as simple and complete as possible. If you would like to
transfer your data, please follow these steps:
1) Go to ActiveTrainer and log in with your Active Network's user account and password.
2) The system will direct you to a Merge account page and tell you that
your account was upgraded by CoolRunning.com. Click the button, Create
an Account.
3) The system will direct you to the Import data page, where you can
opt to transfer your Cool Running data to Active Trainer. Click on the
"Transfer my Data" button to begin the Cool Running data transfer. If
you choose not to import your data at this time, you can always go to
the My Account Settings page and transfer your data later.
4) If you opted to transfer your data, depending on how much data
you've logged in Cool Running, the process can take anywhere from 4 to
24 hours to complete. In the meantime, you can begin using the Active
Trainer features and tools.
5) Once the transfer of data is complete, you will find your Cool Running data in the calendar and Shoe Tracker.
What do I get with my new log?
Active Trainer comes equipped with a host of features, including:
(1) An easy-to-navigate calendar allowing you to plan and log workouts.
(2) Shoe tracker integrated with your workouts.
(3) Map your running routes online to measure total distance and pace.
(4) A weekly training log showing planned versus actual workouts side-by-side.
(5) Graphs to display total training volume, planned vs. actuals and more.
(6) Helpful calculators for pace, BMI, caloric needs, race planner and more.
For more information, visit: http://www.activetrainer.com/Enduran...erBenefits.htm
Can I access my old log?
You will not be able to access your Cool Running log through
CoolRunning.com but your Cool Running Log data will be available in
Active Trainer.

Ha!

I was going for artistic. And my webcam's Effects mode takes care of the artistic coloring... I just had to look moody.

Have you explored around a little bit in our new home away from home? I think I'll get used to it... of course I didn't use the CoolRUnning log -- the people who seem to be the most opposed to this new setup are the ones who have lost lots of data in the transition.

Re: Why all the whining?
The whining, from my end, is because there was a site I loved, and had been reading for years (I think since 2000 and maybe even before that) and now it has turned into this. The joy of cool running was its simplicity, it was easy to navigate. I don't care if I can post a picture - I'm not bothered about that. I just want dicsussion.

Re: Why all the whining?

If you want discussion, can you wait for everyone else to get here? Or go to the other places where everyone has taken their discussions?

I mean, the site's been down a week and things aren't even supposed to be up and running until today. Lots of people probably haven't even attempted to log in over the weekend.

Give the discussion a chance to get started. I'd say the first few days are likely going to be lots of topics related to what this place looks like and how to do stuff. Then back to high-test cameraderie and all that. Maybe some new faces, maybe some old ones that won't be back, but either way it will come back in some form.

Re: Why all the whining?
Because it took me over 30 minutes to log in and then whilst trying to activate my log and post on my usual forum i've had to re-enter my login details another 3 times! and then when trying to update my details in the training, I tried to enter address and state is mandatory and ZIP code validated - not a problem if you're in the US, but there are more countries in the world... Changing the country to UK still wouldn't let me get past this so i've given up!

Still keeping an open mind, but so far not overly impressed! I'll see how the log comes out and maybe that'll change my mind!

I migrated my log data today, no problem. It had all my stuff in there all the way back to 2001, I think. (I stopped looking once I got as far back as 2003.) And it's free unless you want to upgrade for additional features. I haven't looked at everything, but there is still at least some kind of free log in here.

Did people even try to make this work?

I tried. But the log has a very limited list of sports. There is no way to add other sports. Most of my training is kayaking and outrigger canoeing. None of these workouts migrated over to the new log. I backed it up to an excel file before they took it away, so I have the data, just not in an easily useable format.

Oh, and the shoe tracker is still free - click on the tools tab. It's just not integrated into the log - you seem to have to do that bit separately. But your mileage should've transferred over from CR ( which, I must say, is slightly annoying, cos I do kilometres, not miles!)

Re: Why all the whining?

My issues are the same as Ella's. List of sports are few. Some of us cross-train. Actually I more just live an active life and love to hike, and ski, and show shoe and other fun stuff.

Hmm. Irony. An ACTIVE lifestyle. Sheesh.

Re: Why all the whining?

I would never trust my training log to be left solely in the hands of some free, online application. Learn how to use a spreadsheet or create a database people - it is the 21st century after all! :p

This site does seem a little "buggy" after messing around on it for the past half hour. It could be that I still haven't figured everything out or that it's not fully functional yet (or a little of both). Shouldn't we at least give it a couple of weeks before we start our b*tchin' n' moanin'?

As long as the CH maintains a similar discussion content, I'll probably stick around - user interface, aesthetics and the odd bug aren't really big concerns to me.

Re: Why all the whining?

It would appear that there are two "communities" One that you enter via the Coolrunning site and one that you enter via the Active site. The clue about where you are will be the tabs at the top of the screen. If they are old familiar one from Coolrunning, then you have all the old sections and threads, but I don't seem to be able to find an "edit my profile" while in the CR community.

If you get into the active community, you should be able to see the "profile' tabs or links at the tops.

When you are in Active Community you can't see the CR threads very easily or at all. Just bookmake the CR community link to see the CR sections.

And please people, you embarrass yourself with the whining. Children do that. It' s change folks, are you that shallow that you don't expect things to look and work different.

Re: Why all the whining?

NHSenior, I've tried what you suggest and the old coolrunning threads are gone completely for me--they just aren't there. If I try to get to them the way you suggest, it just brings you back here.

And yeah, people are going to whine. Active came in and bought out Coolrunning, started charging for some much beloved features, and trashed the rest in what they call an "upgrade" without soliciting input from the people who actually used the site as to what was important to them.
