I definitely would like to just lose weight, get fit again, lose body fat, tone my body up again. This post was more of a curiosity, really.

Lose "weight"??? At 5.6, female, 120 and 18% body fat, you are perfect at the low end of normal. You've got nothing left to lose now except lean muscle (bad idea) or more body fat (as you said, bad idea), so where are you to go? You cannot get down to 106-110 or you will be right back into dangerous territory. You know this, though. Sounds like you just needed some reassurance that you are lovely and fine the way you are NOW.

Be happy and run happy and know that all you need do now is improve your endurance and add maybe a little strength training (if you feel you need to) and you're home free, sister!

You are so funny, runningman.

And for the record, I'm female, 5.6, 135, 45 years, and 22.5% BF. If my body fat goes down a smidge due to running, that will be a natural side-effect and not a goal. I just love running for its own sake.

I also love myself the way I am NOW. We don't hear enough women say that, IMHO.

You've got to get with who you are now, male or female, before you get with who you (think) you want to be.

You say you don't feel you "look like a runner" unless you drop below 18% BF. Funny you should bring that up, as it reminds me of the many conversations I've had with runners and non-runners over the years of what a runner is supposed to look like. I know you were only speaking of yourself, but I'm just clarifying for those newer runners who might be discouraged if they don't look, and are not genetically wired, to look like you want to look.

So many folks have said to me how much they'd like to run but they are afraid they'll never "look like a runner," which to them, means emaciated. I try to explain that we are all different and not built genetically the same way and are therefore not meant to all look the same even though we are just as fit. Some are meaty, some stringy, some wirey, some a little fatty even. I'm always amazed at how misleading our bodies' appearances can be when it comes to ability. I don't assume anything anymore by what I see.

Personally, I carry my power in my hips. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

The very best to you and may your running hit levels you've only dreamed of, Brazilian. That goes for all of us!

My local university has a bodpod and DH and I went and had our bf% tested last April. I was at 30% and was pretty bummed about that. Since then I have upped my running program and lost a little more weight. Several weeks ago I was at a health fair and a lady there had one of those bf monitors that you hold onto...it tested me at 22%. I just did the link from the post above and I tested at 20%.

Works for me!

Oh yeah, I'm female, 5'10" -- 46 years young and weigh 155.

I have done 2 bod pod tests. I don't like the randomness of calipers. Huge variation depending on who administers the test, etc.

Anywho...my most recent bod pod test was a few months ago.

73.5 inches tall, 190 pounds. 17.6% body fat. (male)

My last test I was 204 pounds and I was 19.6%.

It does give me motivation though. I want to hit about 10% eventually with any luck.
