Speaking of the workers in Pakistan, I'm currently living with the Iraqi Army as a trainer/advisor for my second Ramadan. They take it pretty easy for the most part, but still do what they have to in terms of missions and daily work. It's suprising how well they fair in the heat, but there are always a few heat related injuries and care must be taken. The meals they prepare at night are incredible(and lead to a lot of distress on morning runs from over-indulging), there hospitality is remarkable.

I don't have any great advice for the present but I would like to tell you how much I admire your dedication to both your religous traditions and your personal fitness goals. I might suggest that when you look at your runnig goals over the course of the next year, you factor in Ramadan as a recovery month. Not a complete lay off from the running but a month with reduced intensity and milage. I factor in a recovery month every winter and I credit that with keeping me relatively injury free (also I am far too wimpy to face February in New England). I focus more on my lifting during that time, particularly leg work
