Dublin (Ireland) Marathon 29th Oct 07

Hi Guys,
Anybody out there running Dublin this year? im doing it, training alone as always so without knowing of anyone else who is taking part the build up to the event will be fairly boring...if your taking part, how is your training going....

Eaurouge you'll be glad to hear you're not the only one running in Dublin - I'll be there for my second Dublin marathon.
Are you a local like me or travelling from further afield ?

Hi SFS,
Good Stuff. Running my second as well as it happens. Did it last year and got a great buzz out of it. Im localish I suppose, from Cork. We had a marathon down here in June but organisation and atmosphere wasnt a patch on Dublin. You kinda get the feeling that the whole weekend in Dublin revolves around the Marathon and the set up in the RDS is excellent..
Training going ok for you?

Yeah training going ok, no injuries of note which is the main thing I think.
Whats your goal on the day ? I'm hoping for sub 3.10 or at the very least sub 3;15 so I can go to Boston next year.
I've not done Cork but I heard it was quite low key - takes a while to get these things off the ground I suppose. Connemara in April was fantastic though and I'd definately recommend it if you ever get a chance.

Fair Play thats good going. Hoping for anything that beats last years time of 3:45 which was my first marathon. Never actually ran a race before that to be honest so decided to start with the Marathon! Its a nice feeling getting toward the end of the traing though and being able to look forward to the race day...The only killer is having to give up football etc. so as to avoid injury.

I'm from cork and am only replying because i've never come across anyone else from cork on this site. I'm not doing dublin-am just back from berlin marathon last weekend which was great
good luck in Dublin-where in cork do you do your long runs??

Hi John,
How did your race go in Berlin? Might chance that next year, a friend of mine ran it also last week. It sounds good and would be great to get the atmosphere at one of the "big" races. It was some time from Gebrselassie.
My longs usually take me from Ballincollig(home) in the Carrigrohane Straight continuing through the city toward Silversprings. Last year is used the Carrigrohane/ Lee Rd loop most of the time.

The berlin marathon marathon was fantastic. I did Amsterdam last year and Dublin 2 years ago and to be honest Berlin is far superior in organisation, atmosphere, etc etc

I did 3:40 which was good compared to last year 4:04 and Dublin which was 3:59. Well chuffed with myself overall-we are going to do Berlin again next year.I must try that run of yours from Ballincolig. I do my long run around the marina/Ballinlough/Douglas/Rochestown. It's on map my run and it's called southside long run if you want to view it and try it yourself

Are you tapering yet for Dublin??

What time are you hoping for??

How many miles a week do you average??? I averaged 30 miles a week and hope to get up to 50 a week for the whole off next year so that i can take another chunk of my time.

hope the trainings going well

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you John, well done on your time 3:40 was an excellent improvement.
I had a look at the map my run website. Never even knew such a site existed, its excellent.
In terms of training I have finished my long runs (20miles) but I think ill do one more 20 tomorrow just to give myself that extra bit of confidence on the day, its about 70% mental with me. Ill then do 15 and 10 mile long runs in the 2 weeks before. My average weekly mileage is only about 30 miles as I have football and other things to keep me going as well. If I beat my time of 3:45 ill be hapoy with that. Got my foot caught in a little pot hole last night though and my left ankle is a little sore.......typical...
