Fast twitch muscles

I have noticed after my morning run that my thigh and calf muscles were kinda twitching. I was waddling along as usual and had to cut my scheduled four miler short for an ill timed bodily function. When I got out of the shower, and for the last thirty minutes, I have noticed the twitching.

Is that normal, (obviously not normal for me)? A friend says it is dehydration, I just need piece of mind.

Though your muscles are twitching it has nothing to do with fast twitch musle fibers. If you're new to running it's probably muscle spasims. Just your musles growing no biggie it will stop. It's more common amongst weight lifters than runners.

Can be dehydration as well though cramping is usually what happens in that case.

I could have defined that a bit better. It should have read fast twitching of muscles.

I'm not sure if it is hydration because I drink 60-80 ozs of water a day. I drink water all the time it seems.

It could be a function of dehydration. It could also be a function of low sodium or potassium.

That's what I was thinking runin. 60-80 ounces isn't that much, I'd call that moderate. Hyponitremia, too little electrolytes, could cause the twitching. Water, or plasma, itself doesn't conduct electricity very well- that's why you add you need an electrolyte, like hydrochloric or sulfuric acid in batteries. If you're low on electrolytes the message doesn't get across correctly so things start to misfire. I get most of my electrolytes from V8 (high in sodium and potassium) since I'm not much of a sports drink guy. If you don't eat much sodium or get much potassium from fruits and vegetables, consider a sports drink and see if it helps.

This is very common with faigued muscles. I get this a lot in my calf muscles if my form is off and I am overdoing it a bit. Of course check that hydration and electolyte replacement is sufficient.

OK, Maybe I am confused with hydration. I drink 60-80 ounces of water a day.

I do not drink Powerade, Gatorade or Accelerade. I do drink Propel water from time to time?

I occasionally drink tea with no sugar. Maybe two or three glasses per week?

I do take daily high blood pressure medicine. It has a diaretic in it as well.

I am confused about this thing. I feel like I am bloated all the time. Almost to the point of sloshing inside? Help me out here, please!

If I were you, I'd take out half of the water and replace it with either a sports drink or some fruit juices (V8 like KSC said or something else). With all the water and the medication, you may actually be washing vital electrolytes out of your system. When you think you are doing yourself good by hydrating, you could just be flushing out stuff that you need. I'd definitely recommend getting some sort of juice or sports drink into your rotation.
