questions about basebuilding for november and december
Hi. I have entered (but not yet got confirmation) the London Marathon which is Mid April 2008.
My weekly milage since July 22nd has been:
9, 14, 16, 16, 16, 19, 23, 24, 21*, 25, 25
the 21* week was a 10K race instead of normal long run on sunday. The sunday long run has been 12 miles on each of the weeks at 24 and 25 miles.
This coming sunday I am doing a 16 mile "race" but intend to run to finish not for a time, as I'm not in shape yet. And on Nov 4th I am entered into a HM which is also an event that is just there to focus my schedule, rather than as a target for a time.
I am 34. weigh 173 (5'10). Cross train by doing weights twice per week and swim 2*45 mins per week. Also - have a new bike and intend to do a 90 min ride each weekend (probably on a saturday which has been a rest day up to now).
My 10K time three weeks ago was 51:56 and I feel I have more in my locker already. I was v steady first half of that and finished stronger as I realised I had more in my legs than I thought i would.
So my question: is the following a sensible approach to continued base building for the 2 months nov/dec after I complete the nov 4 HM with no more events planned until april:
Sun 10,
Mon _,
Tues 4,
Wed _,
Thu 6,
Fri 4,
Sat _
therefore this 24 miles per week. with swim*2/bike*1 and weights*3 (2 upper body, one abs/back workout).
My aim is to be in good enough shape to go onto a beginner's marathon schedule in the New Year for april's london's where I'll just want to finish; And my second aim for 2008 is to knock 6 mins off the 10K time to 46:00 (7:40 m/m) by late Aug - recognising i'll need to rethink my training after april for this goal.
Therefore: is the above schedule good for nov/dec? any glaring errors? or thoughts? I'm wondering if one of the midweek runs should be a bit longer, and get Sunday down from 10 to 8?
thanks for any ideas.
