Training w/foot injury-NYC Marathon
With just a little over 3 wks. to go for NYC marathon, I experienced a dull pain on the outside edge of my foot just behind the cuboid during an easy 5 miler. Never had an inkling of pain there before. After the run, that side of my foot hurt, with some pain in the arch when walking. I've iced and taken NSAIDs since. I tried another 5 miler with barely any pain, but the pain flared after, especially later in the day. Finally went to my internist (orthopedist couldn't see me for 2 wks.) who said it could be inflammation or a stress fracture. I've had a tibial stress fracture and the injury doesn't have the same "feel." Doc said no running for a few days and continue icing, etc., and she got me an ortho appt. for late next week.
Has anyone out there experienced a similar injury? Provided it's not a stress fracture, what would be a wise course of training at this point? I've done several 16-18 milers and two 20-milers, the last one being almost 2 weeks ago. I'm not running for time; it's my first marathon, though I've been running for several years. I just don't want to lose significant fitness between now and 11/4. Thanks for any replies!
