6 days per week?

What do you all think of training 6 days per week? 2 'hard days' involving heavy interval training with maximal effort repeats and recovery periods limited to 80 to 85% mhr for a total duration of about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Then 2 'recovery' days of 60 to 80 minute runs at 60 to 69% mhr, followed by 2 'regular' days consisting of 60 minute runs at 70 to 79% mhr.

This is for a seasoned and well conditioned runner. Do you all think it is physiologically too demanding for even the most elite athlete to handle?

When and what is the race he is training for? How long will he train like that? What kind of training came before that and what will follow?

You should be able to handle that kind of training. In college, I ran 6 weeks straight without a day off. We had recovery days and 2 "hard days" if we had a meet that weekend or we would replace a race with another "hard day". Long runs between 90 and 120 minutes and the rest were just training runs. You can do it but if you begin to feel fatigured or get injured....BACK OFF!

Can you handle it? Maybe. Will it give you the best outcome? No way to know. I have limited experience with distances less than 5K, but from the college runners in our club I've interacted with training for the sprint events such as the 100 or 200 is a lot different than training for the mile, and mile training is a lot different than training for the 5000. I would pick an event to focus on and tailor my training plan toward that. My $.02
