Best gift book for first time marathon

I want to buy my almost 40 year old sister a book for her birthday to help inspire her to run her first marathon. She ran the Broadstreet in Philly last year (her longest run at 10 miles), and keeps talking about the possibility of a marathon. I know she can do it.

Any ideas on a book that is inspirational, conservative-- she would rather make it in 2 years than push too hard too fast-- and a good guide? Thanks!

A Duel in the Sun was a pretty good running book. Not sure how 'motivational' it is however. Good story.

Finally 26.2: Marathon Stories by Kathrine Switzer

Last thought. There is a great movie called Peaceful Warrior. It is based on the book Way of the Peaceful Warrior, and is a true story of a collegiate gymnast trying out for the Olympic team. Sort of metaphysical tale. I never read the book, but did see the movie. It was a great movie about dedication and training.

Great Book - I didn't know it was a movie also.

Another book you might consider is the Non-Runners Marathon Trainer. I don't like the training schedule in the book, as it doesn't include enough running. However, the book is filled with stories of folks who ran their first marathon while taking a class at a University (forgot which one). Personally, I have really enjoyed the stories of average people preparing for the marathon. And I have the added benefit of knowing I'll be way more prepared than any of them were, which is a nice psychological boost.
