Sore achilles/lower calf, treatment?

In the last week my left leg, below the calf but above the heel, has been sore and not getting better. There is no swelling, it's not painful to the touch, but I aggravated it again today on an easy 7 mile run. It started last week after a tough hill workout. I think the steep uphill running caused the problem. Has anyone experienced this and what is the treatment recommended? I'm going to take the next several days off, try to cross train on the bike if it doesn't aggravate it, and see what happens next week. I an an experienced runner averaging close to 50 mpw thru the year, so I don't think a sudden increase in mileage or speedwork caused this.

I would still ice if there is no swelling. Also some massage really helps get blood to the tissue. You are doing the right thing by taking some time off. An achilles or calf injury can really put a long term halt to your trainig.

Yeah, just be sure to stretch it out really well after your crosstraining and then maybe get some ice on it. Should be fine.
