Up All Night W/Kids - Run Anyway?

I've been working until like 10 or 10:30 at night in recent days. Last night, I decided to leave "early" (@ 8pm) because I wanted to see my kids and I also felt like I was coming down with something (scratchy throat, very slight cough).

I gave them a bath and got them in bed, ate something myself, popped a couple Motrin, took my multivitamins and some extra Vitamin C. I was in bed by 11 and was going to meet a running buddy at 6 am today.

Turns out my girls - especially my 5 yr. old, had some kind of allergic reaction to SOMETHING and I was up all night with her (took her to the dr. today - she's fine). Anyway, I probably got about 1.2 hours of sleep with all of the chaos of last night.

Had to cancel my 6 am run b/c I did not go to bed until 5:30 a.m. ... buuuut, I'm training for my first 1/2 marathon (on Dec. 9) and my training schedule called for a tempo run today. If I miss the run, I'll just have to chalk it up, because due to my work/running/parenting schedule, there will be no way to fit it in this week.

So, should I:

a) Miss the run altogether and get some rest (I do know it's ok to miss a run now and then)?

b) Change the tempo run to something milder and try to do it this evening?

c) Suck it up and do the tempo run (it would only be @ 5 miles, including warmup and cooldown) - sleep, shmeep?

Thanks!

If it were me, I'd run a 1-2 mile warm-up then go on feel. You only know how you feel, and going out for an easy run would be better than no run at all.

Hope the kids let you sleep tonight.

Do it later in the day. Do you plan on running tommarrow? You could always do it than. I to have 2 young kids and have run before on little sleep than went to work etc...I have been forced to bag a workout or two.

We can't all run for a living you know. Even those that do run for a living still have to juggle to maintain a family life. Thats the way it goes.

Rest up. You don't want to miss your long run.

Might be replying too late but you need to get your sleep. Nothing like getting beat up and then stepped on after. The workout may not be beneficial.
