Training for the marines

Hey guys, I am training for the marines and have been running a while now and would like to know the best kind of routine to improve fittness the best quickly and effectively from anyone with expereince in training for the forces or in general.

At the moment im running 4/5 miles about 4 times a week at 7-8 minute mile pace, im trying to get used to not stopping as i have a habit of stopping fr a few quick breaths then shooting off again, im getting better as pacing myself but i tend to like to run fast , but any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance...

I'm in the Marine Corps - and trust me that your 12-13 weeks in boot camp will be mostly hurry up and wait. But if you do a lot of calisthenics (jumping jacks, push ups, stair climbers, etc.) you will be well prepared for the mental stresses of "IT" (Incentive Training). The longest run that you will do in boot camp is 3 miles - non stop - so your focus should be on 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile intervals for your speed work, 3 mile tempo runs, and maybe some 5-6 mile runs so that the 3 miles seems short. Running 3-4 times a week will be more than enough.
You're already ahead of the game if you're training now.

You're already doing good, you'll do just fine in the 3 miler.

If you'll be going to Quantico, you want to get used to hills.

If youre on the east coast and going enlisted then you will be going to MCRD Parris Island, MCRD San Diego if west of the Mississippi.

I just retired from the Corps after 21y7m and found that if you run longer that the 3 miles required for your PFT (Physical Fitness Test), say 4 miles or more, the 3 miles is a cake walk. Keep in mind that in order to score a perfect 100 on your 3 mile run, you have to do it in 18:00 or less. Since you like to run fast, I'd concentrate on pacing to get your 3 miles without stopping and build from there.

Sorry I forgot to mention that as it does change a lot of the facotrs due to training difference etc. I have dually noted all the responses though, thanks and anymore help will be great!!!

Ah, our brothers across the creek. The 3 miles are now run as a troop in under 22.5 minutes beginning with the first week.

I hear that Marines put cut glass in their socks--if they even use socks--or in their shoes just to make it a little tougher. (: Thanks for serving. Nick, Old Army.
