Looking for running gait video

Hello All,

I am giving a presentation at a math conference on the spring-mass model. The model is used to characterize a runner?s gait parameters and performance. To help the audience understand the gait cycle I want to include a short video of a side view of a runner with reflective markers. Then I can designate the aerial and contact phases of the gait cycle along with the vertical CM displacement and leg compression.

I found something similar to what I need on YouTube at:

But, other than the horizontal marker at head level, the runner doesn?t carry any hip (CM) or knee markers.

If you know of any similar slow speed footage of a runner with markers, could you post a link to them here?

That is unquestionably a FANTASIC video. I especially like the moves when they skate or spin from one tread to the next.

Unfortunately this video would not be inappropriate for a math conference.

That?s a very useable segment all the up through 1:52.

They have an unusual gait. Actually, I haven?t watched many slow motion videos of runners at those speeds. I?ll go back and look at my Olympic tapes.

I see a sort of ?circular? arc of the swing foot from toe-off (TO) through mid-stance but it doesn?t seem circular when the foot swings forward for the toe-down (TD).

Some of the video indicates that the foot moves back a bit before TD, while in another segment the foot seems to me moving forward at TD.

It?s amazing how high they lift their foot and calf after TO. I think that may be a consequence of the high step rate and the vertical launch velocity.

They also seem to have a high launch angle with a long aerial time. It?s hard to measure their duty factor (contact time/step time) from the video. 60% contact time is typical but their contact time seems shorter. Did you notice how thin their legs are? That might have had some effect on the motion of their swing leg and the high foot kick after TO.
