Dreadmill Challenge

Ok folks, Old Man Winter is sorta here, driving many of us inside for refuge. In order to indulge the inner masochist in all of us, we bring to you (drum roll)

THE FIRST DREADMILL CHALLENGE!!!!! (fanfare)

It's running through December and we have two categories - one for time and one for distance.

1. Time - how long can you go nonstop? You have to keep your speed above 4.5 MPH. If you stop to go to the bathroom, you're workout's over.

Most health club TMs have an autostop at 30 or 60 minutes. If that's the case, reset that sucker and get going as soon as you can - no break taking.

2. Distance - you have 4 hours; how far can you go? Nonstop, taking a break, whatever. Start that sucker up and 4 hours later how far have you gone?

Dust off those Ipods, hang up those clothes on a hanger, plug in Season 1 of Dr. Who, get your running groupies ready to provide your suppoort and get ready for some mind numbing FUN!

Sanity is pretty much a one trick pony. When you're sane, that's all you got - just rational thought. But if you're crazy - whoa! The skies the limit!

Re: Dreadmill Challenge
is the time challenge voided if you take a 20 sec break...in other words, do we need a water bottle?

Yes, I would keep a couple of them on hand

Re: Dreadmill Challenge
Oddly enough, I have almost done this.

Back in August, when I was training for my first marathon,
I ran 24.07 miles on a treadmill in 3:10 minutes, without breaking.
And I mean no water, no Gu. Just me and the tv and a hand
towel. I was on a home treadmill, one that keeps going as long
as you do. Luckily it was worth it: I qualified for Boston in my first
marathon, on my first try!

I guess in the next 20 weeks, while I'm training for Boston,
I could be forced to run 4 hours on the treadmill. I am guessing
my mileage will probably amount to greater than a marathon, if
I run at my easy pace. I could probably get around 30 miles.

But do I really want to do that? Hmm.

Re: Dreadmill Challenge
Also, does walking void the results because I can walk briskly and go 4.5 mph?

To me walking would void it... since this is a running challange... I wanted the slower time for some people that might run at that pace.

I agree. Do we want to change the min to something slightly higher, say 5.0 to avoid walking? <HR>

I think 4.5 is good. I'm slow and wouldn't be able to go more than a a few miles at 5.0. I think 4.5 is more realistic. But that is just slow little me.

I'd rather run in a -40 F wind chill, and I have.

please advise on rules....

I'd rather run outside, but the wind is brutal sometimes....

But I like to dreadmill challenge....just for the fact that it is a challenge for me.......
