Greg and JimR, You guys are too funny!

And dude, they are selling them at the stores to make money.

I know nothing about this subject. Only that I ran on the beach in Florida this summer which helped me see why everyone is running on the road. It is now on my list of things that I have done but wish never to do again.

If you do this, please let us know how it goes.
Whatever you decide, be safe!

I think it's time to let this troll's thread drift off the bottom of the page.

Why not save some money and just drag an old tire behind you.

I went for a run today without the ankle weghts and guess what my sprint times are improving. I am gettin more power in the legs because obviously its hard to run with ankle weights and in soft sand , im sure things will just get better , guys try um.

Muscles pull. The only muscles you are working are your quads. Unless you are leaning way over (so far that you wouldn't be able to stand up) the ankle weights aren't doing anything for you. The sprinting on the sand might be doing something, but not the weights.

I've been lucky to see Coach Mike Holloway at the track with athletes and never seen them use ankle weights. You might've seen some of the athletes he's coached on TV at the NCAA championships, World Championships, and the Olympics. For example:

John Capel (2005 World Championships 200m Bronze
Medalist, 2003 200m, 4x100m Relay World Champion, 2000
Olympic 200m Finalist, 200m U.S. Olympic Trials Champion,
200m NCAA Champion, SEC Champion)

Kerron Clement (Indoor 400m World Record Holder, 2006, 2005 400m Hurdles U.S. Champion, Two-Time 400m Hurdles NCAA Champion)

Mark Everett (Three-Time U.S. Olympian)

Jimmie Hackley (Four-Time SEC Champion)

Rickey Harris (2002 400m Hurdles NCAA Champion, 2001 Indoor 400m NCAA Champion)

Stephen Jones (110m Hurdles Barbados National Champion,
IAAF World Championships Qualifier)

Tyrone Kemp (Eight-Time All-American; Coached at Buchholz High School)

Dennis Mitchell (Olympic Gold Medalist, Four-Time Olympic
Medalist, Three-Time Olympian)

Josh Walker (2005, 2004 110m Hurdles NCAA Champion)

Bernard Williams (2004 200m Olympic Silver Medalist, 2003 4x100m Relay World Champion)

2005 Indoor NCAA Champion 4x400 relay team
(Sekou Clarke, Bernard Middleton, Stefan Pastor, Kerron
Clement)

2004 Outdoor NCAA Champion 4x100 relay team
(Ahmad Jasmine, Mike Morrison, Kyle Farmer, Sekou Clarke)

2000 NCAA Champion 4x100 relay team (Daymon Carroll,
Bernard Williams, Aaron Armstrong, Geno White)

Women?s World Record Setting and National Champion 4x800 relay team (Sandra Braasch, Sonja Braasch, Chris Crowther, Susan Nash)

Note: I did not ask Coach Holloway whether he advocates the use of ankle weights or not. Just mentioning the fact that I've never seen his athletes at the track using them. Not that it matters since it appears you are smarter and faster than these folks...

Actually there is a good application for ankle weights that will help your running. No impact is needed. Simply stand up straight. Having your back against the wall helps. Slowly, raise your knee with the ankle weight in place. This will help fight fatigue in the latter stages of a race and allow you to keep that leg turnover.
