Hello everybody,

first some congratulations:

CONGRATULATIONS Omni and Mrs. O. Welcome to life Omniette.

CONGRATULATIONS also to Mr. and Mrs. MM. Although I will miss you, I am very happy for you.

And finally, CONGRATULATIONS to the Yamachiche runners. Thanks for your reports.

DF, sorry to hear about your leg. Hope that you will be on the road again soon.

As JB already observed, I am back in Montreal. Well, technically I am still in vacation and we had plans to go camping during the weekend. However, finally we changed our mind and stayed in Montreal. This means that I will be at the monument tomorrow, 11am. Take care,

Ralf

Hello folks,
It seems like I missed some hot/humid weather in Mtl while I was away on vacation... however down in Manzanillo Mx for two weeks of rainy season is just a tad hot & sticky too (+/- 35c, 90-100% humidity pretty much every day and when the sun comes out...whooa) .... not sure I've ever run in such heat before. Fifteen yards into your run you're drenched... the 2 litre camelback filled with Gatorade & ice cubes worked a treat. Ran on 7 of the 12 days, swam and scuba'ed a new passion on the rest. I found that I don't mind swimming for +/- 90 mins at a time these days either.... has to be saline, 85F and calm
I love Mexico.... not the tourist Mexico but the unpretentious, honest, slow moving, smiling mexico... where almost every pick-up truck packed with people has something to shout at the "crazy" who runs in the heat of the day I love the food and I must go download some Mariachi spelling*!* music when I get some time.... Ho Humm back to reality.
I managed about 40 miles for both weeks (plus 3 or 4 hours of swimming) with longs runs of 16 & 18 miles. I plan a longish one tomorrow on the mountain (I sort of missed our hill while I was away) to round out the week.

Huge congats to the Omnis !

Hey TB what's with the speed ? Nice job !

Chops... are you running mañana amigo ?

Anybody need a lift to Ste-A-de-B. next week ?

I need a hug from Mrs Mars before you guys leave..

Take care

Grommit

Hello everyone, hope the Mount Royal run was good, the weather is great again this morning.

Headed out the door at 8 to see how I would do/feel on flat, taking my time. Headed towards the path along the canal that O suggested last year. I wasn't alone enjoying the sunshine. Plenty of cyclists, some people on roller blades. There was a big freighter heading towards the locks, the "Atlantic Huron" - Canadian Steamship Line. On my way back met some runners, one young fellow pushing one of the wider baby strollers, didn't look like he was breaking a sweat !

By our church there is a small playground with a small fenced in pool that at the deep end the water is at my chest -- my leg was hurting so I thought okay, its quiet, everyone is either away, still sleeping or at early mass, I'm climbing in there. Luck would have it that the young chap was setting up and let me in.

Kept my cloths on, hat and all, got in - felt so good...only problem is putting your socks and shoes back on ! I had another blister that bled on my sock - frig..I'm a bit of a mess these days.

While the lifeguard was in the cabin I sunk in up to my chin, anyone looking over the fence would have seen a ball cap and a pair of shades floating around..funny. Then I dripped home... just hope my leg doesn't feel like hamburger meat later.

O - My plan was the 1/2 in September as well, with my daughter there..I'll see how things go. I think TB is doing the 1/2 and so is Roly. I think Ralf is doing the full. So there should be a few cool runners there.

Welcome back Grommit.

Have a good week everyone, Df

Félicitations à M. et Mme Omni et salutations à la petite demoiselle!! Santé et bonheur à vous tous!

Mount Royal was great this AM, I ran at 7h30 and it was nice and cool, the large trees shading me from the strong sun. I can't believe how nice it is to see such big trees, maybe it's because I've been spending more time downtown, but the trees looked wonderful today!

Congrats to TB and Sally for running in the Yamachiche heat with no shade... And was it hot and humid last week, huh? Wow... but the weather was great this weekend.

Acidosis : been running with Sando and he did confirm that Utica was both very very hot and very very crowded, which contributed to his slower times...

(Afterthought...)

I put my racing plans on hold because of an ankle injury but I'd really like to run the CIBC run for the cure in October, it's for Breast Cancer and I think it would be great to go out and jog it for the cause in solidarity of cancer survivors and victims. No medals, no times, heck even the starting line moved around a little last year. I'm lucky that I don't personally know anyone who has had breast cancer but all the more reason to support the cause. Anybody in? The site is already up for 2005

Hey, it's only 5K!! After the event, you are free to run as many k's as you'd like!!

Hej everyone,

this morning I arrived somewhat early at the monument. Some minutes later Mr. and Mrs. O showed up together with la belle Omniette. Cute! Mars joined us a couple of minutes later and that was all for today (Genou, what did you do last night?). Since Omni had Omniette and no intentions to push the stroller up the mountain, it was finally only Mars and me who ran in this wonderful weather up to the summit. Although my legs were heavy as if filled with lead, we did two loops giving us some 13km today and pushing my mileage to 59 km this week.

Sorry Mars, for being so slow today. But you know what? When I analyzed our intermediate times at home, I found that we accelerated considerably during the run. Ok, it is normal that we did the loops faster than the ascent, not to speak of the downhill part. But we also ran the second loop 40 s/km faster than the first one. I didn't notice such a difference while we were out there. And the total pace was around 5'50"/km which I regard as quite good for me given my sore legs and a moderate heart rate.

Next sunday I am going to run at Ste-A-de-B? I believe that Grommit and TB will be there. Anybody else?

Have a nice week

Ralf

Great run with Ralf on Mt-Royal yesterday.

Don't worry about the speed, Ralf. Considering the speed intervals I put in during my 11 K run the evening before, I didn't have much more speed in me. And yes, we did speed up as the run went along. I'm delighted with our run.

Great to see the Omni family there. The proud parents were beaming with pride. Omni looked relieved and itching to hit the road, Mrs. looked splendidly recovered, and Omniette really looked brand new... fresh bun out of the oven. Congrats again, and I'm looking forward to Omni's presence on "Da Hood" this coming Thursday on our hill training.

For those interested, my last 2 guided hill runs will be "Da Hood" this Thursday, and Clark the Thursday after. Last chances to get my words of encouragement and sympathy as we all suffer on uphill runs.

Train safe. See you soon.

Mars

Hi everyone,

Just back from a little vacation with the kids to Toronto. Even got some short runs in ...

Mr. & Mrs. Omni ... Congratulations on Omniette!! What did you choose as her first name? And great that you are able to slip in runs, Omni. I know that may be difficult to do with such a newborn, and the fatigue level that comes with it!

Welcome back Grommit and Ralf. I guess it's vacation time, isn't it?

Waah ... won't be able to make the hill run this week that's for sure, will see about next week ... Never ran Clark yet ... And won't be able to run the mountain this Sunday either.

I will miss you Mars. Thanks for all your support and patience waiting for me to finally come out and run with you. I wish you and Mrs. Mars good luck with your new life out there ...

Sally
