Perhaps this is because we hard core runners can tell that the quality of their own line of apparel is not up to par. I've only walked into a Running Room a few times, but each time, was greeted by a salesperson who didn't even run ... at all. To those who have dropped by these stores, have you ever noticed the general lack of merchandise that is not their own label? i.e. their running jacket sells on the merit of availability of different colours, not on its comfort and lightness.

Funny, I took an ex-boyfriend out shopping for real running clothes once in Montreal. He had trained and completed a marathon with Running Room. Well, he bought some new stuff and was really happy, but then he promptly chucked his old Running Room label stuff cause he wasn't able to wear it any longer due to the difference in quality/comfort compared with his new stuff.

All to say, I agree with Acidosis ... Running Room might have great running programs, and I am sure that this encourages lots of runners, but I'd still stick to Boutique Courir and Endurance for my questions/shopping. I find that RR's programs, albeit good, are moreso a marketing ploy to sell their own line of stuff, which, hey, they have every right to do.

Just my two cents,
Sally

p.s. MLC: Oh yes, can't forget L'Equipeur, we can pick up stuff there too!

I just love to catch a glimpse of the Running-Room, women-only, running group. THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME LONG-TAIL WIND JACKET. Have you seen "La marche de l'Empereur" ?? Crack me up.

Precisely ... uni-style, outdated, heavy, non-breathing ... but available in "56" colours!

Re: Montreal Runners Forum 2005, part IV
Did my hill training today. It's not easy to do hill training close to home on the south shore. So what I do is I leave home and headout on the Jacques Cartier Bridge and cross over and I come back by the same way, It's a nice feeling when your on the bridge, you have a nice view of the both side of the river! Total km 14.3.

Good evening!

But do they have those fab yellow sneakers ?

BTW... mine are now looking nicely beaten up and not nearly quite so head-turning...

Re: Montreal Runners Forum 2005, part IV
Ok, so I didn't really mean to start a "thing" between Courir/Endurance and the Running room. I really didn't. but, just like everything else in this world, there are different places to go for different levels of "hard-coreness". As some of you have said, when you went into the RR, you were greeted by "newbies". My experience was exact in it's opposite. I was treated like $hit because I did not look the part of a "hard-core" runner. They barely had the time of day for me (I say they, because there were 2 clerks and no other customers). I didn't post anything in order to be flamed about it, so let's just drop it. I guess I won't see many of you next sunday morning.

Anyway, let's change the subject.

MARS! Did you make it to Vegas without incident? How is the new job? Are you checking in on us? Hello?? Hello?? hello?

cheers.

Just a random message, any ressemblance to reality is purely coincidental :

If any of you have big black dogs who charge mailmen and runners at full speed 50 meters away, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not leave them free and unleashed in front of your yard at 5AM...

Nuf said. Back to work.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum 2005, part IV
Good morning everyone - who is doing what this week if some of us want to connect ?

TB/Ralf - are you still going to DDO ? Anyone else ?

Chops - are you intending on the Thursday evening hill run ?

JB - saw your post about the Running room event on Sunday...I have tentative plans with someone I don't see often...if this falls through I may try to get to the chalet by 10:00 and bring the friend from the gym..don't know about the registration side of it..but didn't you say it was a fundraiser..maybe I can work something out with your wife..

Omni3 - are you using the next to vertical staircase on the side where the subway station is ? I see people hauling their bikes up that area in the morning ? I see you put in a longer run yesterday...are you training for anything specific ?

Roly - saw your message where you mention your dad. It will be three years this September that mine died and we miss him. I wish he were around for my effort in 4 weeks (hopefully, if everything goes well) .

He was athletic and enjoyed watching professional sports or even stopping at a local baseball field to watch a game. He never ran distance of any kind that I know of..but mom told me (out of the blue, the weekend she came with me to Cap St Jacques) that my grandfather was a runner...and a good one at that...go figure, lets hope that gene kicks in for me next month !

Speaking of the Montreal event (AGAIN) who else is going besides Ralf, TB, Roly and I ? Grommit, I think you'll be there ...? Sally, you are taking the boys to the walk ? Anyone else ? There is the 10k as well..

Gag - are you back from the woods yet ? Any beaver dams or bears this time around ?

Mars - hey - let us know you arrived..

Have a most excellent day everyone... Df

Re: Montreal Runners Forum 2005, part IV
Hi DF7

Yep, I'll be participating in that event with Ralf. It should prove to be interesting as it'll serve to highlight (in conjunction with the results from the half marathon next month) what needs to be adjusted in preparation for November. I don't know what to expect. It looks pretty intimidating (with the separate start) butI hope I'll be able to complete in the same time that I was able to do previously in July. I need to know that it wasn't by chance that I obtained that result.

Re: Montreal Runners Forum 2005, part IV
DF: No I don't use the staircase, I take the access to the bicycle path that starts on blvd Lafayette near Taschereau overpass. You could get access to it from your place by taking Blvd Desaunier until you get to Lafayette, then go down towards the bridge. When you go under the overpass of Taschereau the path starts on your right. From there you got a nice incline until you get over the Seaway. I go completely accross until I get to Montreal, then I come back.

Good training!

Re: Montreal Runners Forum 2005, part IV
DF: I forgot, I'll be doing the 21.1 in Montreal in mid-september, so I need to get a few 15 and 18 k if I don't want to die on the course. With all the time off in mid june 'til mid july, I got of pace! So I'm not planning any PB, but I'd still want to have a decent time according to my standards. I'm hoping to go around 1h44 to 1h48.

Hi guys, lunch time and I am so STARVED !

TB - there you go again with that modesty of yours ... your success this summer couldn't be attributed to lets say...HARD WORK, and DEDICATION to your training..just couldn't resist giving you a poke in the ribs young man...

Merci Omni3...toujours aussi serviable, and another fast cool runner who will be leaving his sneaker prints on the back of my head on September 11th..

When does Mme O plan on getting back out there..I'd luv an opportunity to keep her company..but I'm not pushing no running stroller...

GOT TO EAT - Df

Re: Montreal Runners Forum 2005, part IV
DF: Mrs O as to wait 20 weeks after giving birth before running. She as to let the muscles and everything else to get back in place if she does want to have any problem for her future. So she's counting the days until mid-december !

Good evening

Tonight I run with my 6 year old daughter in her first official one km run in DDO. I went out and picked up a medal engaved with her name, date and distance yesterday at a trophy store to present to her after the race.
TB, Ralf, Truxx, I'll keep an eye out for you in DDO. If I don't see you good luck in the 5k.
