Just moved to Denver, CO

I've just moved to Denver from the Boston area and am loving it so far. I actually live right across the street from the Cherry Creek Bike Path which is very convenient. I wanted to know if anyone knew about the mile markers (or lack there of). There are lots of numbers spray painted on the trail and right now I'm using the green numbers that are circled - they seem fairly accurate. Anyone know of more accurate mile markers that I am missing?

Also, I'm hoping to hook up with a local running club. Perhaps ones that do track workouts and races together. Any info would be great.

Thanks!
~Tara

Welcome to Denver! I grew up in Norwood...miss the ocean...but really enjoy the mountains and the trails. I'm not that familiar with the Cherry Creek Trail, so I can't help you there; but, if you try the South Platte River Trail or the Highline Canal Trail, I've found that they are both really well marked. The SPRT is mostly paved; the HCT mostly dirt trail.

There are some great dirt trails south of town at Chatfield Dam or Waterton Canyon. At times you can spot bighorn sheep at Waterton Canyon.

A good running club...try rmrr.org (Rocky Mountain Road Runners). They have runners at all talents , levels, and ages and conduct a handicap race each month. They also sponsor the big Labor Day race in Denver at Washington Park.

Good luck, again...WELCOME!

Hey Tara,

Welcome to the neighborhood. I also moved here from boston a couple years ago. Moved to Denver from Boulder a couple months ago. I have yet to find information on the cherry creek path, nothing like the cool chart put out by the MDC about the milages around the basin. I've become somewhat confident that there are no official markings. And i have yet to find a map with milages either, though there are lots of maps. As you have noticed i'm sure, the Cherry Creek path is mostly used by bikers, and i think they are responsible for the spray paint. Which part of the path are you on?? I have not seen the green circle ones.

If you are looking for a change of scenery, the Boulder Creek Path is very well marked (with big engraved rocks) and less bombarded by bikers.
