BTW, thank you to everyone for the encouragement and good wishes. I was thinking of you all this morning. I certainly didn't want to let anybody down.

Take care.

On Sunday, went my way on Lachine canal. No snow on the ground. Very windy. Saw half-dozen runners, no bikers, no in-line skaters. When the thing gets tough...
I already wrote to Mars all the good I thought about his perf.

Chops said "No snow on the ground. Very windy. Saw half-dozen runners, no bikers, no in-line skaters. When the thing gets tough..." In the latest Madonna song she sings " Those who run have all the fun". Now ain't that right

Hey Montrealers,

I live in Ottawa and am a daily poster on the Boomers thread. I am considering running the Montreal Half Marathon on April 23, 2006 a month before I run my first marathon at the National Capital Marathon in Ottawa. Any thoughts on this half marathon, the course, elevation. I looked at the results for this year and the times were very impressive.

Thank you in advance.

Regards
Tall

Bonjour Tall, I've seen some of your posts on the B& B.

Good place the B&B, great race reports, encouragement, and funny stories..Tramps and the yapping daschunds...Dark Horse is a great writer..

Are you talking about the Nike 1/2 in April ? I'm thinking of trying it for the first time but from what I've seen on your training and racing..guess we won't be getting a chance to meet, you will have run and headed back to Ottawa by the time I cross the finish line !

À la prochaine... Df

Tall: Welcome in our neighborhood! The Nike half in april is run mostly on the F1 circuit. It is flat except for a few bumps here and there. So it's a great place to set a new PB on that distance. It is also very well organize, they'll be at the 4th year in 2006 and I never missed it so far. See you there!

Thanks for the advice on the course. Nice to see that it is flat...Want to use it as a gauge of my form and fitness for marathon in May in Ottawa. Will also want to set a PR...no goal yet, should know closer to April but would like to aim for 1:22 or so...

Hopefully get to meet some of you there. Will come down in early April to run it a few times before the race. Will stay connected to this thread..

Thanks again

Tall.

Hi Tall.

Nice to meet you. Omni raises a valid point about the course (F1 and the relative flatness of it) but here are other considerations:

The course is barren and desolate as mother nature is still in a deep slumber. The Olympic basin and F1 track segments of the course are, in my opinion, uninspiring. To exacerbate matters, the final segment of the course returns you to the previous segments where you run along the F1 track and "doubleback" on the basin to the finish

Details can be viewed in the following site:

http://www.canadarunningseries.com/monthalf/montDET.htm#course[/URL" target="_blank">

On a positive note, the view on the ile Jean Drapeau side is, in my opinion, much more pleasant, as the course brings you along the shore line where one can enjoy the panoramic view of the city. Runners depart running on a asphalt surface in exchange for a gravel one. Surrounded by trees and the river, despite the course requiring a touch more effort to negotiate over the previous, it is by far, that much more enjoyable.

The participation rate has increased since Nike became the official sponsor of the event. The event was heavily publicised and people responded. Okay, perhaps it was the allure of the Nike shirt

This has proven to be a boon for the running community in Montreal. Although the number of runners are not as numerous as they are for the Ottawa NCM event, it is still enjoyable to witness a fledgling event take flight.

Consequently this translates into fewer runners running along side you during the event. In your opinion, will this affect your ability to record a, "PR"?

While you'll be doing that, I'll be over at the waffle tent. Mmm.. That was the highlight of my day

Hope this helps.

TB

Only on the Jay topic. But heavily Lurking on all the other ulta posts.

Grommit 8 miles in 55 minutes.. I wish.. maybe in the fall I'll start working on upping the speed and not the milage so much.

I gave my TM a rest last night and ran a 10 K (61 minutes)around home the weather was perfect. Added a 300 meter hill to the run that is very steep I will be using this hill starting January to run hill repeats to strengthen the legs.

While TB is at the waffle tent, I'll come by with the maple syrup. Apparently last year they didn't have any... (?????!!!!!)
