No marathons. I did a 5k on New Years Day in Ft.Collins. I will do a 4 mile run on Feb. 12th in Loveland.

not this year. that's a good marathon, though... i've run the race twice, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

annora:

Any other suggestions for marathons in colo?

I'm afraid now with my kids' baseball schedules that I won't have the time to train properly for May 7 marathon. Was also considering the ADT trail race on Labor Day. Do you have any experience with that?

Last year we ran the Boulder Backroads 1/2, which I really liked. I've heard mixed reviews. Some people don't like the serenity of running out in farm country. I thought it was great. I might consider the full marathon this year.

New Denver marathon this year too, with the Boston race director in charge. Might be a fun one.

What are your racing plans this year?

szq,
are you looking specifically for half marathons? or, the full deal?

the durango double might be something for you to consider. you'd have to make a full weekend of it (perhaps take your kids camping), but it's a great little race series. and, durango is a nice little town. your options are the durango marathon and the san juan half, as well as two trail races (one 25K and one 50K).

boulder backroads is great. 'though you will come to hate haystack mountain during the full marathon.

i'm racing in the rocky mtn. half this year; i'm really looking forward to it. i'm also planning on the wild west relay in fort collins (to steamboat springs), but i've had some down time this year, and i may have to bag it.

i may participate in the bolder boulder, but there's a possible work conflict (i haven't checked, and i'm too lazy at the moment) that could prevent it.

my current plan this year is to race 6 half marathons; i might choose a full marathon, but that isn't a certainty.

where would you be starting on the ADT? it's my understanding that canon city to cripple creek is a toughy, but i'd rather that than the flatlands east of here (bo-ring).

Hi annora.

I don't know enough about the ADT to even answer your question!

Biggest selling points for me on that one are: the date and the fact that it is run on trails/dirt as opposed to asphalt.

I'm just looking for options, I guess. You have so much more experience than I. I ran my first half last year and really loved that distance. This year will be my first marathon, and I'd like to do another couple of halfs

But I am quite afraid of the marathon distance, frankly. So I'm looking for the best venue for an inexperienced marathoner. Not sure if I should go for the biggest race, or the smallest. The serenity of the cows, or the clamor of the streets. Mostly though, I want to make sure I have PLENTY of time to prepare!

Thanks so much for your suggestions and insights!

Susan

I just moved here last September from Seattle (but lived in Lafayette from 2000 to 2003) and like the unpaved trails just North of Midway (isn't that 128th?). I have heard that the city of Broomfield is planning on building a pedestrian tunnel near our neighborhood (Brandywine) so that we will be able to access the Big Dry Creek Trail. Not sure how long it will take to start or complete.

I had not heard that. My cousin lives in BrandyWine. She just moved there also. Do you like the neighboorhood overall? I love it. Broomfield and parts of Westminster are very nice. I grew up in Erie. Did you run the Oatmeal Festival?
