It looks like I'm going to have to skip Brickyard, gang. We have a nephew in the hospital in very bad shape, so I feel that I should stick around. Sorry about that. Tom, you and Steph may have to carry the CoolRunning banner for us all. I say it's in good hands.

Hopefully my situation here will get better ... in the meanwhile we can scope out another future race/get together.

Tom, are you (or anyone else?) interested in the Shadow of the Giants 50K[/URL" target="_blank">? I'm 99% sure I'm going to do it .... slowly

Too bad we couldn't get a team together for the Brickyard race. It was a nice day and a fun race. It was a much tougher course than I expected--all hills. I was planning for a nice little, flat tune up run prior to the Big Sur Marathon next week and ended up huffing and puffing my way to a 1:06 finish for the 8-mile course (8:19 pace). I have now lost all confidence in my fitness and training.

Stephanie flew by me in the first mile and came in 2nd in her age division and 6th woman overall. She is fast.
Here we are after the race.

Way to carry the CoolRunning banner for the rest of us, Tom & Steph. I'm really sorry that I had to drop out. You two look mahvahloussss

Tom you were just saving it up for BSIM ...

So, we can keep on trying to set up some runs/races, if not for a larger group then whoever can fit them in. We're each a CoolRunning group run unto ourselves .... a veritable CR "Army of One"

We missed you Hup and I'm very sorry to hear about your nephew. It was a very fun race and I certainly hope we can meet up for some more racing and running in the future.

Thanks for posting the picture, Tom! Would you pretty please email me a copy and the one of me and Will? I have a new email address it is

thekuehns@comcast.net

Thank you! And good luck in Big Sur (and Steve too!)....I'm sure you will do great.

Way to go guys - I'm sorry I missed it!

Santa Cruz was a lot of fun - Lynne did great and timed it so she finished just before the rains started. I enjoyed standing on the sidelines cheering everyone on...being thankful that I was not the one suffering this time!

I'll keep an eye out for future runs...unfortunately I'm getting out of shape pretty quickly...maybe a future CR run will be the motivation I need to whip my heiny into gear again.

Hi everyone,

Hup just directed me over here from the Run and Race Reports daily thread. I'm a 3rd year student over in berkeley, so I guess I fit the category of being a Northern CA person . I actually did the Santa Cruz race as well last weekend, which was quite fun (my first hm). I look forward to talking to other runners from up here!

Hey Addy,

it's great to hear from you! I wish I could have done the Santa Cruz HM...I went to UCSC, so it looked like a good nostalgia run. I'm training for my first marathon as well (San Francisco in July) so if you're ever looking for a running partner just let me know.

I worked at UC Berkeley until very recently...now I'm home taking care of my kids and in grad school.

Take care,

-Steph

Steph- Thanks for the welcome. Thats great that you went to UCSC. My little sister is just starting the college tours (she's 17) and absolutely fell in love with its campus. After running through the area, I'm highly considering going there for graduate school. It's just so beautiful! How's your training going? I'd love to do the SF marathon sometimes, just because it's such a great city to run through. I'd love to have company on runs (I don't have much in the way of running partners) but I must say that I'm really slow, so I might not be that much fun to run with. Still, If you are a slowish runner as well or don't mind running slow, than we should compare schedules . My email is Addygrl@berkeley.edu, so feel free to drop me a note if you'd be interested in running sometime!

Addy

Hey Addy - what's really slow to you? If you're really really slow (see my "screen" name!) I'd be happy to join you for at least part of your runs (I'd probably cap my distances at 10 miles for now) on occasion.

Hey all, just got directed down here from tomrunsalot. I'm up in Menlo Park, and would love to hook up with other bay areans

I'm slow as molasses, but am trying to work up to a trail marathon, maybe auburn in October? Did Big Basin 16 mile last weekend in about 3:30, if that gives you some sense of my slowpokiness..

I have two little ones, so sometimes a little tricky to organize my time on the fly, but I can usually make things work if I have enough warning.

Hey Trail Momma -

I am in the East Bay and don't mind commuting a bit on a weekend for a nice run. I typically run streets/dirt bay and lake trails (so, flat) but I do really enjoy trail running. If you're interested in arranging a run sometime, either post a message here, or email me at katiestewart444@hotmail.com.

I'm a slower runner, and am also now 15 weeks pregnant, so am slowing down more and more. I saw your post in the trail running section - the speed looks about right to me, but I haven't run more than 8 miles in several months, so I couldn't do real long runs, but could meet you for part of a longer run, or, depending on the training schedule you settle on, a shorter recovery run or something.

Hey katie,

Sorry I didn't respond earlier back over here...haven't checked this board in a while. It sort of slipped my mind that I'm leaving the bay area relatively shortly for summer break, so I won't be able to meet up with fellow bay area runner for a few months. My long runs have been between 11 and 12 min/mile, so definitely on the slower side, and I often run with my dad who generally tops out around 12 min/mile, so I have no qualms about taking it nice and easy . Congrats on the pregnancy! Hope your summer running goes well
