Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Hello!

Am looking for some advice. I'm going to be in Paris over Memorial Day weekend and need to get in a 20 mile run (in preparation for Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN in late June).

Anyone have a suggested route? I've been to Paris a number of times, but have never attempted a long run there before. I'm staying in the St. Germain area, so I suppose something starting near the river would be ideal.

Thanks!

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Hi guys, you all did such a great job in the Mississauga marathon that I am really sorry I missed it. I would have loved to be there to see Kelly and Jim qualify for Boston. Sorry you had such a rough time Scouter. I am going to do the Scotiabank in Toronto in September, which means another 30Km training run at Blue Springs. How many hills? I want to do more cross training for this one, any suggestions? All advice cheerfully accepted.

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
I saw us way down at the bottom and got scared and had to put us up top

So, since i'm here, i might as well post.

Nice run today with Scouter D and the group that did Mississauga. We call it a "family run" when it's either the last run before a marathon or the first one after........we will run as a family!!

Looking forward to Sulphur Springs next Saturday. Anyone else doing it?

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Now with two weeks having elapsed since Mississauga I have stopped feeling sorry for myself and can take pride in the acheivement of finishing. My goal is to build on tyhe experience and try to get better. It was my first marathon in a long time so like Farnk Sinatra I did it my way. Now with that marathon under my belt, the self imposed pressure is off. I will do it the right way and have some fun in the process. Started with the hill training and will abandon the lone wolf appraoach and look for people to run with. Still not ready for another race, so will pass on sulphur springs.

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Sorry Florie, not doing Sulphur Springs this time around, I am running on Saturday morning, so I will be at the Den around 8am in case anyone else is running. Its much more fun when you run with friends. Good luck on the trails to you and Scouter D, I hope you have a great run. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous, hope it is. HK

Just getting caught up (and inspired!) on this thread.

Congratulations to everyone for their Mississauga accomplishments (better late than never, right?) and have fun in Dundas!! Who's doing the 100miler ? ScouterD, that might be a good challenge for you, no?

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Hey Scouter D, Tieron & Simps (sometimes she posts) all did really great this morning at the Sulphur Springs trail Run. WE all did 25k, but we have one who did 50.......don't know how he is yet.

Personally, my legs were tired from the very beginning.......don't know what that is all about. I struggled through it and felt quite beat by the time i came in. It was nice to see my friends cheering me (i was last in the bunch), but it was kinda embarassing, considering my time. I know that that is something i have to deal with being last, (not last overall, then there'd probably be tears), but being last with the group that i went with. But, it makes me feel, well, kinda old.......and i hate that feeling! Ok, enough pitying!

Two of our group came in second in their age group......that was pretty exciting.

Hope everyone's enjoying their Saturday i Nice to hear from you Rio.

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Ah Deb, cheer up! Just remember that your "bad" runs are someone elses personal bests!

I thought about you guys out there - it must have been sweltering.

I'm happy to report that I completed my first "long" run tonight since breaking my ankle. It was all of 50 minutes! But I figure it's a start.

Still no luck finding people to run with. There is a group who run with Runner's Choice in London, but I think they are the sort who qualify for Boston each and every year. I see them trucking around town at a good clip.

I think you need to open a runners den branch in stratford.

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
NIce to hear from you Robyn. And you're right. Last night i was talking with my beginner group and some of them are a little slower then the others, so i told them i was last in my running group and that made them feel better. It doesn't hurt to know what it's like to be last.......it reminds us that the last one is the one who is probably struggling the most and needs the most encouragement, plus, it keeps us humble and we could all use a slice of that pie.

Did you know that Wanda is back running with us?

Glad to hear you are almost up to an hour. Keep at it - you're going great for having doing it on your own.

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Wanda did tell me she'd signed up again - which is great! I know she really likes it when she gets out there.

I don't mind running on my own too much... but it would be nice to have people to run with. I miss the "group" aspect of it, and the motivation.

As long as my ankle holds up (and I am thinking it will, if I can do 10k I can do 20, right? ) then I want to do a half in the fall.

Please say hi to everyone for me.

Re: Paris, ON Runners Forum
Hi everyone,

Just introducing myself here, just discovered coolrunning a couple weeks ago and now keeping a running log on here, quite a nice site..

Also just found this thread, unbelievable, so many local runners..I'm just a beginner and doing the 5km program on my last week, although haven't really followed it exactly, took 3 months instead of 2 mainly because I think i just walked the 5km for the first month then slowly added in some runs, on the complete walk..

Also trying to baby an old ankle injury, got 2 screws in there it's easy to make that puppy tender, but can say I can complete the full 5km now, without stopping..

Started running mainly for health reasons, too many years with a desk job, getting flabby, only need to lose 10lbs that's not so bad, but gotta get fit before couch potato syndrome hits..

Runners Den just fitted me with some better shoes, time will tell if they help, but last nites run went well best 5km time yet.. 27:02. Legs feel it today..lol. Man it was hot out there though..

Right now just doing 3 runs a week, now that I can do 5km, not sure where to go from here, I know my schedule doesn't match any of the clinics too bad, but oh well

Would like to be able to do the Nov Grand River Run. But overall will probably stick to the 3 runs a week.

So in general is it wise, to keep 2 of the runs at 5km, and slowly create 1 of the runs into a long run hopefully building to 10km...not sure if the ankle can handle it, but I plan on building slowly..or should I maintain the 3, 5km runs for a few weeks and then change it up?

I live in Brantford and tend to head out the door and run. I stretch for about 10 min before and after the run.

But got to say all you mega mileage people are insane, in a good way
