I did a 12 km bike ride on Monday and the speedwork around the track at PDHS today before work. I hear you when you talk about the heat. 400, 2 x 800, 1200, 2 x 800, and 400m speedwork with the usual warmup (like I needed that!) and cool down. Lots of water and I think I lost about 3 lbs. Kidding. Wasn't too bad in the morning. Hope Thursday is cooler. HK

Hey florie - congrats to everyone on the DTRB run in Owen Sound. I am pretty sure that was the run that I swore off running in.

We're moved!! Finally and thank goodness. And of course there's no AC in the new house... which sucks. But, I love it here. It's a small house, but the yard is HUGE and there's so much more space than in the apartment. I just love old houses and keep pinching myself that we were able to get exactly the house that I wanted. It needs a ton of work, but it's going to be fun to get it done.

My horse stepped on my foot the other day... so even though I haven't run in over a week due to the move, it's going to be another few days. Conveniently it was the foot that spent all winter in a cast.

How would you guys feel about coming up here for a 14k race in September? It's the River Road run. If I find the date and post it, can you give me an idea of how much interest there'd be? I'd love to see everyone.

Okay... my last day off work so I'd better get cracking. Have a great day! I'm praying for the rain they keep promising us so it cools off.

Edited to add the link to the River Road Run. It's Sunday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m. Beautiful course.

Hi Rio.......glad to hear that you've moved.......i am sure you are very happy. Does it have a deck? We don't have central air either, but we get a nice breeze off our deck so we have been spending alot of time out there.

Can you e-mail me in September.....say close to the first - and send me the linc? I will post it then. I know that if i send an e-mail out about it now, there won't be any response.

I remember that run 2 years ago - meeting up with you for the last few k...i think we were both pretty done in. I was 3 minutes longer doing it this year. I don't race on trails.......i think that's what i like about trail races.....i have no desire to race them and never do. Actually, i really don't like racing........too stressful, too hard on the body.......no fun at all.. But, don't tell anybody - it's not really good for an owner of a Running Store to not like racing. Oh, i guess i've just told a few people here . I'm sure no one's too surprised.....my life is a pretty open book here.

Sorry to hear about your foot - hopefully you'll be back running in no time.

Again, if anyone's reading this. If the temp doesn't break......no running tonight either. Stay home, have a barbecue and a cold one.

I figured the St. Marys run would coincide with a marathon... it usually does. That's too bad. I'm surprised they schedule it that way, as it is one of the owners or Runners Choice that organizes it (I think) and I believe all the organizers are big marathon runners. Hopefully some will be able to make it. Don't let the "challenging hills" bit on the website scare you away - they're really not that bad!!

Finally some relief from the weather... doesn't appear to be any broken bones in my foot, hopefully I'll get out there for a run soon.

Have a good day everyone.

Hey, RioG, thought I'd say hi - I lurk here every once and a while. Sounds like lots of changes happening in your life and its going very well -nice to hear. Hope you are happy with work/career stuff as well.

I'm REALLY running again, going to Chicago, and it feels great to be back at it.

Hi to Florie and the rest of the Paris runners. Drop by the Ontario (eg. GTA) forum sometime.

Strep!!! Good to hear from you. I should get back to lurking in the ontario thread again.

SO glad to hear you're really running again! That's great news. I haven't quite made it back to that point yet... but I can feel it's just around the corner.

Lots of good changes... mostly buying the house, which I love. Including all the impending work (it's a pretty major fixer-upper).

Work/Career is going okay... working for one of the big 5 banks. I took the job because the financial aspect of it really appealed to me... but truly it's far more a sales role than what I wanted. I need to go home at the end of the day feeling like I've helped people... instead many days I feel like I've just talked them into a visa card they don't need or want.

Still... lots of room for growth and I'm working on my PFP (which will allow me to write for my CFP) and it's all funded by the bank, which is fabulous. So, pay my dues down at this level then if I can hack it I'll work my way up to the Financial planning level. OR take my designation and hopefully put it to use somewhere less sales oriented. The latter is my path of choice, so we'll see what happens.

Sometimes I regret not pursuing the CGA route, but eventually reality had to hit home, and truly I just couldn't afford it without some serious loans, and with that I never would have been able to buy the house, so I suppose all's well that ends well.

Good to hear from you!!

RioG, being with the bank and getting them to fund your courses is a very good thing. There are many aspects to finance and accounting - and financial planning, in my humble opinion, is far more interesting than accounting. Despite being an "accountant" I do very little of it - the planning part is more fun. The key is to find what you enjoy doing, because then it is not just a job.

Have fun with your house - it sounds like it is going to keep you busy - not as job but a labour of love

Ok, well tonite I decided to try a trial time run fo the 5km to gauge where I am at and measure my progress, so far on my long runs I'm now up to 12km..

Tonite I nailed the 5km run in 24:57sec..
I hit the 1 mile mark at just over 7min and half
I hit the 2400 meter mark (my military standard gauge) at 11:30
Hit 3km at just under 15 min..

It was a nice hard run, but not completly exhausting, which tells me I'm doing ok.

Y'all looked like your thread needed a <bump>. I don't post here much, but I thought of this thread this morning when I registered for the Run for the Toad. We camped at Pinehurst a lot when I was a kid, so I'm looking forward to running in the park. I hear it's hilly. ;-)

Thanks for the welcome! There are only about 25 places left as of this morning -- if anyone is sitting on the fence, now's the time.

Edited to mention I live in Toronto, but grew up in Brantford.
