"pre-training for lardasses" sounds like what I need. Is there a version of this program that includes double cheeseburger combos a few times a week?

Tom

The Waterloo 10KM Classic. By fast, I mean that the slow runners seems to finish with better times than I would expect. I wouldn't be surprised to finish LAST in my age group.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2006
I ran a 5k in 18:51 last weekend (ten days), I'll be doing the Nightcrawler on Wednesday next. I was hoping to be in great shape for The Docks 5k and the Canada Day 10k, but I've missed a lot of workouts with this knee problem.

JC, we'll race again at the Waterfront half.

Yeah, this time I'll stay right with you until the .1 km marker.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2006
Patti you are sounding like a real runner again. I guess the group motivation is what you need...and to get away from the dreadmill.

I finished 4 weeks of pre-training slogging for lardasses on Saturday and it almost killed me...too freakin slow...even for me.

Now I can at least start to pick up the pace again. I'd like to run a half in around 1:50 this fall to see if I can still run.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2006
I was in Scottsdale, Arizona (near Phoenix) this weekend (Friday-Monday) and squeezed in three runs in the desert. The great thing, seriously, about Phoenix is that not only is it hot (30 degrees at 6:30 am today) but also hilly. I finished a lot of my runs by chugging up the hiking trails of a mountain. Running in the desert is an amazing experience, though you will almost certainly need water. I carried water Friday (38 degrees at dusk) and on Sunday's long run (35 degrees), when I was carefully rationing water. I've never carried water on a run before. Ever.

When I have run in the Phoenix area I stayed away from the hills.

Actually I hiked on several of them but ran the flats.

Running in the desert can be weird because without the humidity many people don't notice how dehydrated you get so very quickly. It's no fun when the first symptom is death.

The first symptom is a dull headache that lets you know something's not right, not to mention a desire to just stop running and go home.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2006
The Nightcrawler was tonight, I ran five miles in 30:58 and placed 30th. It's small progress that I'm happy with and I'm happy to run well at a pretty competitive race. Jim, who curiously appeared right after some bird droppings landed on my wrist while warming up, came in at just under 34 minutes. To even things out for Jim, he won neither the blender, the mountain bike or any of the showcase showdowns.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2006
I didn't have nothin' to do with no poo.

I was late leaving work so my warm up was not much more than running to the registration tent, running back to the car to get changed, then running to the start line to start. Then I was stuck in a pack for most of a mile and couldn't get rolling, ended up with a 6:47 starting mile. Had two guys around me in my ag near the end, one about a second ahead and the other a second behind. The guy behind kicks into a huge sprint near the end trying to gain that extra position, which forced me into a sprint, and I forced the guy ahead into a sprint...the three of us were running in a line like idiots. Made for a good chuckle between us in the chute tho. Conditions were about as good as it gets down there, chilly enough off the lake to make you change out of your wet stuff right after you finish.
