Do you bring your own sycophants or did they provide them free of charge?

Congratulations on the race, it's a good start. Doing anything else in the fall?

They had water, Gatorade and Gu on the bike course. The run course had lots more than usual due to the full Iron race that was also going on. They had water, Gatorade, Coke, Gu, cookies, bananas and I think they even provided chicken soup later on in the day. I tried Coke on the run for the first time and it really helped settle my stomach. I didn't feel the big power surge that others have said I would feel, but it was good just to get the knot out of my stomach.

I might do a 1/2 marathon this fall, but I'm really not sure yet. I want to keep my long run at 2 - 2.5 hours, so the 1/2 mary will keep me motivated to do that. I've never done a stand-alone 1/2, so I'd like to see how much better I can do without having to swim/bike beforehand.

Is anyone doing Scotiabank or Toronto Half or Full Marathons?

I stopped off for a Coke at kilometre 20 of 26 on Sunday. The sugar helped a lot, as did the 43 grams of carbs, but I didn't feel a huge surge, just a return to the pace I had before sputtering a bit.

I'm running the Waterfront half marathon in three weeks.

Sunday is our mara-pace run from High Park. I missed the last one and have been warned its hard, first half all up hill. Should be a good test.

Happy Running!

Maybe I'll run over that way, stick my tongue out at you, then leave.

Yesterday I did 4xmile repeats then ran 9 miles this morning @mp...man, what a struggle to keep pace with my legs already toasted before I started.

Was that intentional? What pace were the mile repeats at? If you could actually pull off the second workout, it sounds like a great idea.

The repeats were at 6:30 pace...I know that's an easy run for you . Doing a longer MP paced run the next day was sorta intentional, mostly just to see if I could hold that pace on tired legs. I don't have any other specific reason to do it, and then I ran really slow today.

That's not the sequence I would normally be doing. It would be pretty slow on my Thursday longer run, then the next run I would pick it up a bit. This was kinda backwards from that.

I can't believe you did that. Those mile reps had to be around 5k pace for you. I can't imagine running repeats at 5k pace and running 15k at marathon pace the next day. Well, I did the reps at 5k pace on Saturday and did a reasonably steady long run (16 miles at 7:45ish pace) on Sunday, but I think my marathon pace would have to be closer to 7:00/mile and I didn't come anywhere near there, much less hold it for 9.

That's solid work, and that's where development comes from. It does beat you up. I ran a tempo on Monday and I felt good but very slow on Tuesday and didn't even feel like running on Wednesday. I was fine by yesterday though (800s at 10k pace)

Got in 20 miles this morning along the mgt, lots of people out there even with the longboat 10k on today. That's 2 big runs for me a week apart. Maybe I should stick with this kind of schedule instead of doing very longs every 2 weeks.

There were people running everywhere. I even saw 6-7 people running last night at around 8-9 pm. It looks like everyone's getting their butt in gear for the fall.

I was at the Longboat races today. I'm pleased to report my first official personal best since June 2005. I ran 38:40 and knocked 12 seconds off my old 10k time. I ran much of the race, really miles 2-5, too conservatively because I expected the pace to get tougher though it never did. As a result, I think I can go maybe 20 seconds faster. With a little more training, a 37-minute 10k is still possible this year.

My last post seems to have disappeared.

That sounds like a very tough workout. You ran it just over 4:00 pace, as I'm sure you know, but you should be fine on a flat course (Chicago, right?). Is this the hardest workout you'll be doing in preparation for Chicago or is there another 25-30 km run at marathon pace scheduled in a couple of weeks?

I'll be doing my hardest training of the fall (and the year) this week before resting up next week for the Waterfront half marathon.

I've done runs like that, patti, where everyone seemed to be on the route at that time. A whole lot of ditching on and off the path and a lot of running on grass and curbs and roadways to get around. All in all it sounds like you're right on schedule.

I saw your results, aurang...nice job! A wee-bit faster than that humid Don River run.
