Last week of taper. I did a pair of 10 milers on the weekend, nothing too stressful. A little MP paced run tomorrow, a few miles on Wednesday with one or two up-tempo miles within, then try not to blow it before Sunday. Forecast for Sydney that day shows wet and windy.

Hi Patti,

Sorry you missed your BQ. Just wasn't the day I guess. Still an awesome experience in one of the world's premier marathon. Hope you did enjoy the trip in general and got to take in the sites of Chicago.

Have a great RnR, you deserve it.

Eddie

Now I'm trying to decide whether to try another run in January - I'm going to chat to the coach. I think if I rest for a couple weeks then get back at it I could do it. While I'm disappointed I do feel really good about having done it, I do feel strong, and I've come along way since May. I know I've got the stuff to do it! <HR>
If you can get out to a place like Phoenix, which I know has one in January, I think you should go for it. At worst, you won't run Boston in April so there's plenty of time to recover after that.

You gotta get those foot problems outta the way, Patti. PF can be a tough one to fix up.

Not much running left on my part before I hop a plane back home to the Cape and run the Fiddlers Run. This big system giving us weather here will be a factor there come Sunday. The current forecast is rain, 55 k winds (gusts higher), but mild temps. That'll change but I figure we'll get blown around and a bit damp no matter what. Should be fun!

Glad you're OK Patti and had a good experience overall...a long way back from how you were feeling at Around the Bay last year isn't it!!

Sorry about the BQ, but it's still out there and you're just a young chick. With the great improvements you've had and your training group I'd be betting money you'll be in Hopkinton before too many Aprils pass.

Good luck Jim - I hope the wind is always at your back, the rain holds off and warm temps continue.

Oh, I think the wind will be at a whole lot of places with me on this one . Storm front isn't here yet, we were hoping it would be raging outside right now and be gone by the morning, but we may end up starting in the peak of it. It'll be an interesting event. They're hopelessly short of volunteers and rumour is we'll be running a half marathon route twice just to have enough stops manned.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'll try to post a report tomorrow.

What a beautiful day for a race!

Too bad they didn't hold one. At 8AM, the planned race start time, the rain ran horizontal and the winds were howling to 100 kliks (140 kliks in the highlands further north). The portapotty company couldn't get the potties to stand upright. The police wouldn't man the course as they felt the conditions were too dangerous and delayed release until 9AM pending conditions. At 9AM they still wouldn't give allowance to start, and the RD reluctantly made the announcement. Bad timing, the sun came out literally as we stepped outside the door. I did a 23 mile long run on the route as subsitute. No water or amenities on course, temps in mid-teens and blazing sunshine made it tougher than it should have been. They offered auto signup for next year, I'll let them do that and see about next year. Meantime, I'll plug away with whatever base I've built.

Sorry about the race, Jim. Any idea if you're going to be able to get in a race at all this fall/winter? Philadelphia is in a few weeks.

You should've been at Detroit yesterday, where it was bad (3 degrees and windy) but nothing crazy. It was a better day for running than my previous half marathon, I thought, but I've had injury problems the last month and haven't been able to train very hard. I was very pleased with my time (1:26 chip), which was twelve seconds off last month. I have to admit that the consistency is also kind of funny. Detroit blows away Toronto in terms of crowd support, I was amazed to see so many people out cheering on both sides of the border.

Hi everyone. Something strange happened to my login account and I wasn't able to post anymore. I had to re-create my profile since it said "DawnT" didn't exist. Hopefully, this one works.

Jim - sorry to hear about the race being cancelled. That's a long way to go for a race and then end up not doing it. I hope you're enjoying your trip home anyway.

That's okay. I got a lovely 3 1/2 hour long run out of it, and automatic entry to next years event.

So, should I just keep running 3+ hour runs every couple of weeks? I'd be in great shape for the ATB if I did.

On the other hand, there is all that white stuff to come.

The last 2 halfs I did were also only about 12 seconds apart timewise. Maybe it's the pacing.

You can't train all summer and fall and not race. Seriously. Go run something.
