Getting used to the forum, but the training log...

Is another matter. It has some nice features, but lacks some of my favorites. I really liked the "journal" feel of the CR log. Also, I can't seem to find any way to make this new one give me weekly, monthly, or annual totals. I've been looking for a reason to upgrade my Excel exercise log to include a journal function, maybe now is the time. Only thing that has really kept me back is the convenience of the "go anywhere" functionality of an online log.

Has anyone spent much time working with the Active training log? What do you think of it? Short of upgrading to the pay service, are there additional functions or features that I need to "turn on" somewhere?

Re: Getting used to the forum, but the training log...
Let us sincerely apologize for the problems you are currently experiencing with the transition from Cool Running to the Active system.

Our team has worked extremely hard to try and minimize these issues. However, any transition is going to cause some discomfort. Moving from the familiar to something new is a difficult situation. You may be asking why this transition occurred in the first place. The simple reason is that it was necessary simply to maintain the day to day operations of CoolRunning.com. The old CoolRunning.com system could no longer handle the load of the community. Furthermore, there were data security and maintenance issues that were creating an increasing strain on the system. Over the last six months, there were numerous issues of users losing data on the CoolRunning.com system, a trend that was accelerating into the New Year. By moving the message boards and running log to Active.com, you benefit from Active's more robust infrastructure, meaning no more lost data.

Again, we apologize for any problems you may be experiencing in the transition. We value your feedback and it is our goal to work with you to ensure your concerns are addressed and promptly resolved.

We understand there may be a bit of confusion about the data transfer from the Cool Running logs to Active Trainer. Even though the data is largely the same, it will look different in the two systems.

  • Workout type, distance, duration and pace will transfer directly over.
  • Any comments, Avg HR and Max HR will be inserted into the workout notes for those specific workouts.
  • You weight data will be imported into the Daily Vitals section in Active Trainer.
  • Shoe data will automatically populate into the Shoe Tracker, including all mileage information logged to date.

You can view historical data in a number of formats on Active Trainer.

  • Your calendar allows you to see workouts (with varying levels of detail) in a month, week and day view.
  • Click on "Reports" in the top navigation to access your Training Log, showing side-by-side planned vs. actual data in a weekly view
  • Dig deeper by clicking on the Training Stats tab, which allows you to graph aggregated stats such as training volume.

Try shopping around for another one.

I use runningahead.com and I know Eric (the admin) just set up some features for disgruntled coolrunners to export their CR log to it. Runner's World licensed the software last fall but Eric continues to improve on the alpha site. It's simple to use, customizable, has areas for notes, etc.

Edited to add link to Import Instructions

Another edit to add example shots of my log (why do I feel I might be censured by the Active powers that be for this?)

Sara:

I am another of the disgruntled Cool Runnings useres that is trying to make this new system work out for me. I can seem to track down all my Cool Running data, except for Heart Rate. It has not been put into the notes as you mentioned.

Is this still in process, or has all that data been lost?

All of my data has been transferred. I just don't like the format of the logs at all. Too much clicking, too many pages. I tried setting up a graph of 2007 running miles by month. This should be easy to do right? I gave up. I will try some more, but I may move to another online log. Man, the old Cool Running logs were so easy.

Your data shouldn't be lost but if it doesn't come through message me or email/call customer support. It should come through though.

For everyone...
I understand your frustration and am trying to respond and send feedback along to our people here so we can work on things for you. I saw a couple posts that were asking why the merge happened and I wanted to explain things a bit. We realize Cool Running is an amazing community and many of us actually spent time over there are selves. We are athletes too. The merge happened because Cool Running didn't have the capacity on its server to keep the site up and running. Therefore, we merged and we realized it wouldn't be ideal, but we at least wanted you to have a home. Now we are realizing you don't like your new home, so we are working hard to sort through your feedback and start figuring out how to make changes while also answering questions and maintaining a site. Kickrunners.com recently experienced what Cool Running was on the verge of experiencing, which is a complete shut down on the server due to overpopulation. Cool Running didn't want this to happen and either did we so here we are. I apologize if things aren't great, but we are working hard to work together with the Cool Running community to improve. We appreciate your feedback and if you have any problems please let us know or email/call customer support.
