Re: Pensacola

Hey, Chuck!
I still can't get in to page 2 of our Pensacola thread. I was thinking of starting a new one last Friday.
Glad you enjoyed the Beach Run. Not sure how long you have been around town. You may remember that for many years we had the half/10K/5K at Navarre Beach, but the hurricanes have taken care of that. Word is the Holiday Inn that was the host site will never be rebuilt.
More bad news on our local races. NAS informs us that we cannot use the base for the Bay to Breakfast 10 mile run. They had given permission and we had everything ready to go. IHOP was even coming out to the base with portable grills to cook the pancake breakfast. Now since the Navy has rescinded our permit, the officers and board decided there was no alternative but to cancel for right now. Seems like ever since Hurricane Ivan about 16 months ago we have had to take 1 step forward 2 steps back.
Forgive the complaining. Sometimes I take my club "jobs" too seriously.
Have a good weekend.

bevie ... i hear ya on the hurricane stuff...we just came back from vacation in st. pete ... and we were like total tourists on the beach.. how sad that we had to go 7 hours away to enjoy a beach... lots of damage on pcola but is it me ..do they seem to be taking a really long time to get things fixed... i would love a bike path thru... doesnt' even have to be a road just a path lol
don't get me wrong i know there is alot of work to be done i mean i lost my roof and about 40 trees and my yard still needs work

Re: Pensacola

Sorry to hear you're injured, snoopy.  Can you maybe run the half instead of the Pensacola Marathon?  I know it's not the same, but it might be better than hurting yourself.
How far along were you in your training?   My husband ran the Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans a couple of years ago off a long run of only 15 or 16 miles.  He suffered for it tho.  Neither he nor I are in any kind of running shape right now.  We have been running several times per week, but shorter distances and slower.  He is going to have surgery in the not-too-distant future - heart valve replacement.  A lot of his problem right now is the increased tiredness from his heart working so hard to pump blood through the defective valve.  He's looking forward to feeling better.

Re: Pensacola

Oops.  Somehow my reply posted before I was thru.  I was just going to comment on the hurricane situation.  I don't think we'll be back to normal around here - esp. at the beach -for five years.  We lived in Charleston, SC, when Hurricane Hugo hit.  Hugo was worse than Ivan. Charleston certainly has a lot more on the ball than Pensacola, and it still took years and years.  Five years after Hugo I was working in homebuilding, and we were still doing hurricane repairs for people who had finally just got their insurance settled.
Running at the beach is really miserable at night right now.  Last Wednesday two of my friends and I ran the Shoreline loop in Gulf Breeze, then went to the beach to socialize with the running group.  Many of the group have been skipping the Wednesday night run because of the road conditions out there.

today i loaded up my bike and rode a trail... felt good to get out and do something... good for my piece of mind lol

Re: Pensacola

Good luck to everyone this weekend at the Double Bridge Run.  Wish I were doing it.  2 reason why not.  (1)  We are going to Charleston, SC, Thursday thru Monday.  (2)  Can't run that far right now anyway.
My sciatic nerve problem is killing me.  Last night I managed 46 minutes of running/walking/limping.  Will try to run with my son in Charleston this weekend.

Re: Pensacola

Bevie   have a fun and safe trip..  hope your able to run with too much problem...

I am going to try my best to do this race.. i have run over the beach bridge several times but never the bob sykes bridge.. did a long run of 12 yesterday.. first one since my tendinits and i am still having issues with my foot today.. so hopefully i will be able to run it....

i wll probably have to come to terms that i won't be running the marathon now  unless a miracle happens it taper time and my long run of 18 miles is all i have ...   i am happy though with all i have acoomplished... i went from no running a year ago to running hm s.....   i just dont' want it to be work i want it to be fun like it used to

Re: Pensacola

hey chuck you was your race.?..  i started out really good then my injury (which i guess wasn't completely healed came back after someone stopped dead infront of me so they could throw their cup away in the trash.. arghh so i really aggrivated it coming to a complete stop so suddenly or else i would have knocked her over..  so i had to walk down the last bridge of all things it hurt to go down my favorite part lol..so i came in really close to the end..but i finished and thats all that matters right? lol

anyway i did finish but didn't get to enjoy afterparty b/c my of my tendinitis... guess i am done running for a couple of weeks so my marathon is out.. right now i just want to be able to walk painfree i have small toddlers to chase around ...
so now i guess its back to the trail on my bike
happy trails
