Good Texas Races?

Hello, I ran my first HM in Houston almost 2 weeks ago and loved it. I am not looking into doing another race really soon but I was just wondering what some other good Texas races are that people have enjoyed. I am thinking maybe around September or October but I am interested in anytime.

What distance are you looking for, and what area of Texas?

Here is a great event that many people are not very familiar with. It is in March.

Good Morning,

Here's another great race, which happens to be in my beautiful city, San Antonio http://www.samarathon.org/.[/URL" target="_blank"> I ran the 1/2 two years ago and hopefully will run the full this year.

On the "big race" circuit, there are a few good 10K's. One is the Conoco Rodeo Run in Houston in February. Several thousand runners, and lots of spectators, as it "leads" the Rodeo Parade.

The Bayou City Classic 10K in March is always fun, and this year it is the RRCA 10K National Championship. A few of the nation's top young runners will be here for it, as well as many of the top area runners. But, it also has a centipede division that brings out a lot of creative costumes.

The Capitol 10,000 in Austin in April is the state's largest 10K. I've never run it, but it's supposed to be a lot of fun if you like large races. Tons of runners of all abilities, serious runners, costumed runners, etc.

If you can round up 4 friends, the Beach to Bay Relay marathon in Corpus is a great race. It's coming up in May.

On the smaller side, there is the Polish Pickle Run in Bremond in the summer. Part of the Polish Festival they have there every year. It's a fun 5K, and if you do well, you might get to take home a big jar of pickles as a reward.

There is also the Dr. Pepper Run in Dublin, TX in June--the only place that they still make Dr. Pepper with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup (there is a definite taste difference). Part of their big festival. They have a chip-timed 10K, a 4K fun run, and a 2K kids' run (based on their 10-2-4 advertising slogan). Great race.

The fall brings the HARRA Fall Series in Houston. There is a 10 miler, and the 20-25-30K series leading up to the marathon in January. I also like the Rocky Raccoon 25K and 25 miler in Huntsville State Park, if you like to run trails. I ran the 25K two years ago and absolutely loved it.

Those are the races that come immediately to mind. You can find a complete calendar at http://www.insidetexasrunning.com[/URL" target="_blank"> . Congrats on the 1/2 marathon finish. See you on the roads...
