Hi all. I was up in Presque Isle 2 weeks ago. I am from NY and it was quite a culture shock. Anyway, Maine was great.

Boothy - hope all is well at the doctor's.

I'll be running Boston Run to Remember Half Marathon the same day as Kerrymen, so Kerrymen will be out for me. I just found out today that my sister-in-law might be able to get me a number for the Cherry Blossom 10-miler (April 2nd, down in DC). The race is capped at 10,000 and it usually sold out within 24 hours. I ran it last year and had a blast, so I'm really looking forward to running it again this year

Happy running everyone.

Viich its nice to hear from you and that does sound interesting a long drive from Portland. But I will have to check it out.
Hope to hear from you on how it goes and some of the races in your area. You never know when we may want to travel to your area. If you have any questions about races all over the state feel free to ask.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your running and training in NB
<HR>

Actually, I've only been running a couple years, but there're plenty of races here. Athletics New Brunswick[/URL" target="_blank"> has a good site, the Run NB side has all the road races. I've been training with the XC team at the University of New Brunswick (I went back to school and got in one race) since late August, and have really benefited from it. I ran my first 1500 indoors a few weeks ago, and may do a few of the all-comers track meets in the spring, I really enjoyed the race.

I may get down to a race or two in maine, but for this summer anyway I probably wouldn't do anything past Bangor or Lincoln. I run most of my races (and there seems to be one at least every couple weeks starting late april) in the southern cities of Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton.

There was a guy from Caribou who came down to Saint John for the Hypothermic Half Marathon last year and finished second, I believe.

Oh, do any of you know anything about the Loco shoes sponsored races I see advertised? Sounds intriguing.

Anyway, thanks for the interest.

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
Hi!
I'm excited about Mary's Walk - it's always a great time. I'll be running with a friend who is fairly new to the race environment, so we'll be cruising at whatever speed is comfortable for her. Since I'm not speedy, this will not be a problem! I am, however, speedier than I've ever been so I'm anxious for my 5K times the following weekend. I'll be wearing a navy blue Kennebunk Fire & Rescue t-shirt - come say Hi!
We had a grandson born this past Tuesday, so with helping DD the week before his birth and since, my beautiful HM training schedule is really a mess. I did get in a few 3 and 4 mile runs over the past 10 days, but I sure didn't stick to the plan. I did my scheduled long run last night (8 miles) -- I'm a little sore today, be feeling good that I didn't lose anything with all the extra days off. Actually, my time was great - I was really surprised. TheBob (my 4 legged running partner) actually had to trot! I may have even worn him out -- I never thought that would happen!

Hope to see everyone tomorrow!

Hey all, hope everything is going well with the Maine running crowd.

Congrats on the new grandchild mrsq, my wife and I welcomed our newest grandson to the world on Saturday he is our 6th and our seventh is expected in June!

Anyways, I completed Boston's Run to Remember on Sunday and it was a great day for a road race.

I did a more complete report in the appropriate column but figured I would post my time here as well.

I finished in 1:34:59 for a Half Marathon PR and an automatic entry into the New York Marathon.

GO BOB!!! That's terrific!! I have a half coming in May, and I'm just hoping to finish before sundown -- I may bring a flashlight just in case.
Had a great time at the Kerryman 5K yesterday. Gotta love the pizza and italians after! 32:50 -- a great time for me, especially considering all the chatting I was doing. This is why I usually run alone!
Back to winter tomorrow -- stay warm!

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
mrsq - congratulations on the grandchild

Bob = conngratulations on the PR and the auto entry to NYCM

I too ran the Boston Run to Remember Half Marathon this past weekend. Finished with a time of 1:34:08 for just about a 4 minute PR Due to the weather last year, I missed the race and based on what I heard, this new course is MUCH better. Will definitely keep this race in mind next spring

Happy running everyone.

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
Congratulations Bob and Elufa with your times in the Boston Run to Remember. Very impressive times.

Victoria, I'm sorry I didn't see you at the Kerryman Pub Race. I'm glad you were able to make it and you injuries didn't stop you from running. It was very crowded this year, just under twice as many runners as last year. I finished in 20:17, two full minutes faster than last year.

I know they put out quite a spread after the race and walk, but I didn't get much to eat as I had to wait for my son to finish the walk. He uses a power wheelchair and was with friends of mine and because there were so many walkers he had a harder time manuvering along the sidewalks. By the time he finished the food choices were limited, but I had hoarded a hotdog and another runner found a slice of pizza for him. I ran into many people I know and we didn't leave until close to 2 PM. What a day!

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
Thanks all, Kudos to you too elufa! You must have been just ahead of me. This is truly a great road race, and both the course and the weather this year was so much better!

My wife had to stay back in Biddeford and she came across the traffic for Mary's Walk, I forgot to tell her about it. Great job to all who ran or walked for such a great cause.

I hope to see some of you in some upcoming races real soon.

Hey Brian! We left right after the finish and the ham italian and the pizza - DD really has her hands full with the new baby and was feeling a little overwhelmed this weekend, so I was anxious to get over to her apartment to help out.
It sure was crowded this year! I missed last year because of the stress fx, but I've been to all the rest and it's amazing how it's grown. They do a really good job organizing this one.
I've been ramping up the miles to be ready for a half in May, and so far all body parts are coorperating. no sign of the stress fx returning (AMEN!) and all the back and neck issues from the car accident are almost a thing of the past, so I'm feeling pretty confident about being able to live up to my plans for the year.
Glad you had your son had a good day in beautiful, downtown Saco. What's next on your race schedule??

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
Hi Victoria,

Where is the Half you are running in May? I plan to run the Patriot's Day 5 miler in Portland 4/17 and the Mother's Day 5K in Portland 5/14. Tomorrow the registration opens for the Beach to Beacon 10K, that will fill up very quickly.

Happy running!

Brian
