Can someone tell me about the Back Cove runs? Are they on Wednesdays? What time? Can anyone join in? I'd love to do them since I'm working on my 5k time (hoping to get it down from my PR of 23min) this summer but i don't know if they jive with my dh's lacrosse schedule. Thanks!

Thank you, Mdolley and Boothy. Unfortunately, my dh plays lax every Wednesday night and I'm home with the kids. bummer! Maybe I can arrange a babysitter so I can check it out.

Hello everyone, first time posting on this board. I wondered if any of you had any secrets for finding races. I live in the midcoast, near Belfast, have a young family and business commitments so I would like to race close to home. I get to run two or three races, but it seems like most of the races are Freeport and south. I look on this site, but it doesn't seem to list all of the races. I get frustrated when I read about a local race that was held close to me, and I had no idea it was going to happen. Other than that, I'm 31 and I enjoy long runs on dirt roads and scenic ridges.

Has anyone run the Yarmouth Clam Festival 5miler? I am planning to run that with a friend who is a new runner. I haven't run that race before and she is very concerned about hills. Can anyone tell me the route or give me an idea of the hills? I know she will be fine but she needs some reassurance! I can't find the route on the MTC site or the festival site. Thanks!

Sisu,

The ClamFest 5 Miler starts on main st by the town hall. Takes a right at Handy Andy's on East Elm, Right on North St., Right on East Main, Right on Willow, Left on Bridge and then through Royal River Park on the Bike Trail....it comes up on East Elm where you take a left, take a left on West Main at Handy Andy's and Finish at the Town Hall.

I have run it a few times and it is deceptively hard.....especially if it is hot, you are in the sun on North Road going up a gradual hill for 1.5 miles. At mile 3, you have a long down hill to the park and then when you get to the Park it is very crowded. Coming out of the park, there is another challenging hill and then when you turn the corner at Handy Andy's it is all down hill.

It is, however, a great tune up for B2B. The festival atmosphere makes it worth it!

The back cove runs have changed a little in that they charge a small fee. I think a couple of bucks or if you buy a tee shirt and the money goes to Portland trail. They also have give aways at each run.
but they are on Wednesday at 6PM and they meet at the beginning of the trail on Baxter boulavard. But i'm a little on clear about the meeting spot you can check with Maine Track Club page and see if it's spelled out there. Link at the bottom of the page.

I've run the Back Cove a few times this Spring.....It has the same format, but is co-sponsored and supported by Maine Running Company, Portland Trails, Mizuno and Maine Track Club.

You can sign up and you receive a race# for the entire race series. It is still free of charge, but if you wish to make a donation or purchase a Back Cove T-Shirt, all the proceeds go to support Portland Trails.

You sign up across from Hannaford Near the Preble St. Ext. in the Back Cove Trail Parking Lot.

Thanks! I run in that area quite a bit and know that area well. I'm sure it can be challenging if its particularly hot. I'm sure my friend will be fine and I look forward to the run.
