Thanks Brian, I really enjoyed Doc's 3 miler as well. It is a really nice race with a great atmosphere. plus it's local! I also had a great time at the New England Mile, I was a bit tired by the end of the day but had a great time and was pleased with my time.

I would also like a bit faster time on Saturday at the Captain Cash 5K but know how the heat and humidity can affect us. Last year it was extremely hot even that early in the morning. and running up Old Orchard Street and then the hill just before the finish can really take a lot out of you on a hot day.

I look forward to seeing you there, and if I don't good luck.

Wow, found this string had sunk over to page two!!

Just a quick update. I ran again this past Saturday with Bob Scamman in the Captain Cash 5K in OOB. A very damp and muggy day to run...imagine breathing molasses. Still we did well, both getting second place awards in our respective Age Divisions. I think this race will become more popular each year as people learn what a big deal the family is making of the event and for the participants. While the course is a challenge, the first mile drops over 50' and the second two recover that height, there are activities at the beginning and a good breakfast at the end.

Looks like another week of running between the rain drops!

Hey Maine Folk,

My wife and I are new to Maine, just moved in about 2 weeks ago. We are looking for groups to run with. We are living in Scarborough, she runs in the 9:30-10:30 pace depending on the distance and I run in the 6:30-7:30 training pace, but would like to be training with the faster. We would love a club to join but it doesn't seem like there is one for the both of us to join beside Maine Track Club and it seems they are not as structured as the club we came from in MA. They had weekly workouts with track and long runs with semi-large groups, where there was always a person for either of us to train with.

Any help you guys can give us would be great. She is starting to train for the Maine Marathon and could use some partners to train with. This is her 14th marathon so she is fairly seasoned with the training.
Thanks,
marbles

Hi. I have recently started running long runs with a woman I met online who is training for the Maine marathon. We pretty much do only our long runs together and occasionally meet up once during the week for something short.. Your wife is welcome to join us.. That is about our pace for our longer runs.. I live in Cape Elizabeth and my partner lives in Portland and we usually meet in Portland, Falmouth or Cape..

I am 45 and she is 50 and she is running the marathon, her first.. I have not quite decided yet.

Anyone running the 2006 Old Hallowell Day Road Race, it will be my first road race this summer, i really want to make my senior year of xc indoor and outdoor track to be a great one. So i have started training sooner in hopes of being a lot faster this fall. If anyone is interested in running the race let me know, i would like to meet some fellow maine runners and talk about running.

Hello Maine runners,

There have been several races recently (at least six on July 4th)...anyone have any comments on what they liked or didn't about a particular race they ran? Did anyone run the Bridgton 4 miler? Over 1400 runners, it must have been quite a circus.

Bob, how was the LL Bean 10K? I hear it is a difficult, hilly course.

I ran the Goose Rocks Beach 5K. The start was very crowded for such narrow streets, yet the crowd spread out early giving plenty of room for all. It rained twenty minutes before the race start and runners were lined up on a gravel road for the start. I expected the race to be slippery, especially starting out with sand on the bottoms of our running shoes and with many quick turns through the Goose Rocks neighborhood. Fortunately I was able to maintain traction and enjoyed the route with lots of energetic suppport from vacationing families. Again, another very humid morning and I had to work for my time but finished 34th with a 19:48 time.

Brian:

I noticed your time at 19:48 that was really awesome. You are running quite well right now keep it up.

I had a tough time at the LL Bean 10K, I had done 18 miles on Sunday and my legs were really tired. The humidity as you mention was pretty bad and had a big impact on most of us...well at least me! I struggled a bit and ended up with a time of 44:15 not exactly my best 10K. I learned a valuable lesson...no more long runs a couple of days before a race like that! Either way I still enjoyed it, they do a really good job with this race and it is one of my favorites. I am thinking of doing the 5K in OOB later this summer.

Keep up the good work and see you soon.

Hey Boothy, too bad your not doing the B2B, I'll be there. It really is a great race and it is good to see so many other runners that you see at some of the various races come together for this one.

Gee Bob.. Not even a mention that you saw me at the LL Bean 10K ? I'm sad.. that was a tough race.. I did not have my best time, but my training has been more about trying to add distance right now then speed.. and I was 8 of 24 in my age group.. so.. getting older.. have to be happy with what we do.. I think my time was 54:23 and I will be definitely shooting for better than that in the B2B..

My daughter had a pr and beat her time from last year by more than a minute.. Last year she was 2nd in her age group and this year 7th.. even with the better time.. There were quite a few high school xc runners, so the 14-18 group was stacked this year I guess..

I like that race and since this is the 4th year I have run it, I know what to expect with the hills.. good crowd, everyone is always happy and it is very well organized.. and it also really fun to stay and watch the little kids out and back fun run.

Sorry Culry, I didn't mean to dis you! Congrats to your daughter for her PR. I am always working on my distance runs but this year have started to pay a little more attention to my shorter distances so that I might get some better times. But Tuesday...WOW...the humidity and my legs just did me in. But like you I really like this race, and this is my third year in a row so I too am learning the hills and what to expect. I too will be shooting for a much better time at B2B hope to see you there.

Hi everyone,

Sorry it's been awhile since I last posted. Ever since I ran the Pineland 25K I have been having pain in my right knee. After taking a week off, icing, and ibuprofen, I gave running another go. After one mile, excrutiating pain. I had to stop and walk back home. Not a good experience. So after seeing my doctor, having an xray and an MRI, I just found out last Friday that I have a bad bone bruise on my right tibia probably due to the trauma it endured on that trail run. I'm sticking to the roads for now on. So to make a long, sad story short, I'm out of running until August 1 when I can begin to slowing train again.

Curlygirl, it looks like your still aiming for the Maine marathon. Keep it up, I know you can do it. I won't be running B2B, but I'll probably be at the hard right turn when you go up the hill and enter the park cheering everyone on.

My goals this summer are to slowly get back in shape and maybe do the Maine Half Marathon in October. We'll see how it goes.

Enjoy your races and stay healthy everyone,

Chris

Just checking....it's been a while!

I am now 14 weeks pregnant and started my official half marathon training yesterday. I had signed up for the Maine HM before I got pregnant so I'm going to go for it. I may end up doing a walk/jog combo but that's fine with me! I've been running/walking sporadically but my energy is slowly returning so I'm excited to get back out there!

I didn't end up running the LLBean 10K as planned ---as I was not prepared.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

Hi all, I came on to the boards to see if I could find someone who might know of running routes in Jackson, MS as I am heading that way for a week. Imagine my surprise when I found a group from Maine instead!

However, why is it everyone in Maine is on the east coast? Isn't there anyone over here in the mountains with me?

MJ
