Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
I'm glad to find you guys. Wish this site had a search function...

So, I am a midwesterner. But we are coming to Maine for the Maine marathon October 1st.

DH and I are running the half marathon. It will be our 3rd halfer, having run our first in Phoenix in January and #2 in Port Angeles Washington in June.

We are not fast - (2:30ish) but we try hard and have a good time doing it.

Anyway, any comments on the course? I cannot seem to find much about hills and things to be aware of.

Thanks

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
run4thin Rise N Shine race sounds good. I'll be there if the family wants to go too. I'll post on this thread probably closer to the 7th

And, you mentioned running with someone - what's your pace? What are you training for? What's the length of your long run?

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
pmcneb Welcome to Maine. I'll be running the half too. If I finish, I should be around your pace (I'm hoping to finish, and I'm wildly hoping for a 2:20) so I'll probably see you there!

You have any information about this Rise N Shine Race never heard of it, but then again, I very new to road races. So any website information would be great or distance 5K/10K, location etc.

Thanks in advance!

MDOLLEY: thanks for posting the info on teh Rise N Shine Race--its a flat course on the railtrail in Augusta (if any have heard of it)? The new YMCA is being built, so I guess there is a tour, if wanted, after the race. Will email you...

Do any of you think you will go--might motivate me to register?? Right now I am too disappointed in my time to even go.

Welcome to the Maine Runners forum run4thin. I have owned a Forerunner 201 for the better part of four years and have never had a problem with it other than occasionally losing a signal for a moment or two but nothing serious. However I just got a new Forerunner 305 for my birthday (gotta love my wife) and it absolutely rocks! The 305 comes with a heart rate monitor and the ability to download your runs onto motionbased.com or sport tracks is pretty cool. And best yet I haven't lost the signal with the 305 yet and I have run through the trails at Ferry Beach Park in Saco which has a great deal of canopy cover. I would highly recommend the 305. Just keep your eyes peeled for the best price. I got mine for $259.99 shipping included at buy.com in early September.

You can also take a look at the gear forum and review the posts there from various users of the Forerunners and other devices. Best of luck in either case and keep posting.

Hey there pmcneb, good to see someone traveling to Maine to run either the Marathon or the Half Marathon. I have run the Half once and the Full three times and will be running the Full again this year. For your info the course is considered to be a fairly flat course. However there is one pretty significant hill you will face during the half and it is just prior to the half way point for those running the half. Shortly after passing Skillings Greenhouse on your right you will traverse a nice downhill and then an immediate uphill...not horribly long or anything but still a pretty decent hill. The turn around for those running the half is only a short distance from the top of the hill and you will turn and go back down the hill and up the other side again. That is really the only significant hill, other than that there is a fairly short steep hill at about the 10 mile mark for those running the half which really shouldn't bother you (at about mile 23 for the Full Marathoners it can be a little more bothersome). After that short hill you are home free on a pretty much flat run back to the finish line.

Best of luck to you and your wife and make sure you post and let us know how you did. Oh yeah bring warm clothes, but also be prepared for it to be warm as well. The last few years have given us spectacular weather!

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
Great info, Bob! I run Rt 88 all the time and you are right about that hill right before the turnaround. Not bad at all and it's actually a bit easier after you turn around and run down the hill and back up.

What kind of food are you looking for in Portland?

Re: Maine Runners Page 2006
mdolley,
I really enjoyed the race report and the pics you posted from yesterdays race. Congratulations!

Does anyone know if there was a 5K in Sanford yesterday. That is where I live and we saw a 5K start sign on River Street after church on our way to breakfast, but never heard of a race being advertised at all.
