Macon Area Running

I think I'm finally getting healthy enough to run some descent times.  I did an interval workout with my cross country team today, and my times haven't been that good in a couple of years.

The most important thing is that my heel doesn't feel that bad. Ever since the Alaska marathon, after a hard workout or race, I could barely walk without limping. Even after the Atlanta Ekiden, I couldn't do a cool-down run because my foot was killing me.

So, did anyone do the Gordon Fall Line 5K? I know Josh didn't run it, because he was at the Bleckley Invitational with me.

My next race is the Peachtree City Classic 15K. I'll be looking for a little pay back from my dismal performance last year. Then, it's on to the Macon Race for the Cure 5K.

Hey Perry,
I considered running in Gordon but changed my mind and did a 16 miler instead. I'm not sure why. I think Bill was planning to run there though.

My next race will be the Race for the Cure so I'll see you there. Good luck in Peachtree City.

Hi Perry,

I'll be heading down to Peachtree City too. It's well worth the trip from Alpharetta. I've done this race almost every year since I've lived in the Atlanta area.

I've never run the Peachtree City 15k, how is it?

How'd the Jones Co. Invitational go yesterday Perry? I saw the results in the paper..but thats all I've got from it so far.

Next saturday, I think I"m going to run that 5k in Sandersville...it's a nice course..I ran it last year.

Re: Macon Area Running

Na, I still think sub 16 is a little ways away right now.  Not to mention that last year when I ran this race, I won by almost a minute, so unless some competition shows up, there wont be anyone to run with and push me, but even if there were, I dont  think I'm ready for a sub 16 just yet.

Just to let you guys know, I spoke to Alan sunday afternoon and he ran 2:26 at Chicago....while it's not an olympic qualifer, missing by 4 minutes, it's still a great feat and something I could only dream of running, so if you guys see him, congradulate him.

One more thing...

Alan finished 71st overall and was the 66th male at Chicago.

Re: Macon Area Running

He is going to try again in December at Rocket City....I think I may even run it...with my only goal to be to break 2:58.

He said he was on pace through 20 or 21 miles then he just lost it and started running 6 minute miles...I didn't get much more than that...but I didn't ask...but it was still a great time...just not quiet what he was looking for...

Re: Macon Area Running

I'll see you all at the Komen Race for the Cure. John is wanting to come in sub 17:00 in that one, as his XC PR is 17:02. He has State tomorrow, and he's hoping to get All State this year. Did you see that the FPD Varsity boys got 8 out of the top 10 in Region?
Of course I'll be happy to get sub 23:00 for Komen!

Re: Macon Area Running

Well, the State meet went very well. John placed 6th overall, so he met his goal of being All State. Anna's JV girls team won the meet also, so they were both in good moods!Augusta Christian pushed the FPD Varsity girls into second place by 2 points, and Augusta Prep did the same thing to the JV boys but with 4 points.
The Academy XC coach has asked me to run tether with a student at GHSA Region after I finish at Susan Komen. I'd like to help the kid out, but that's a little too much for this old man. Anyone out there feel like being the eyes for a blind runner?

Re: Macon Area Running

Not a bad race Perry.  Bleckley's region meet is this saturday, but I'll be in Athens at the Georgia game.

As far as Sandersville, I didn't go. I've learned working with young kids isn't good for your body as far as sickness goes. I'm picking up every cold, every little virus...I came down with a cold on thursday, and I thought it would be gone in time to run saturday, but I still had a fever friday night and still woke up like I was going to go run, but just didnt' have any energy...so I didn't run. Alan said he ran 15:08 and was first overall.....second was Clint Watkins in 17:something.

When is the Vulcan? I've always wanted to give it a shot, so when is it?

Re: Macon Area Running

Perry,
That was a dang good pace for a 15K. Your heel must be feeling better.

Scott,
What kind of pace is the school runner doing? I may be too slow.

See you guys Saturday.

Steve
