NYC Marathon Nov. 5, 2006

O.K. Who's In? Good luck to all those in the lottery on the drawing tomorrow!

This will be my 4th year in a row. NYCM 2003 was my first marathon ever. Each of my 3 NYCM's has been extremely disappointing time wise where I developed cramps on the Queensboro Bridge (mile 16) on all 3 marathons! Looking to finally conquer and slay the NYCM curse! I'm just looking to come under 4:30 using a combination of the Higdon INT II plan and the Pfitzinger 55 plan.

While my finishing times were very disappointing in all 3 races due to cramping reducing myself to a death walk the last 10 miles of the race, I've enjoyed this race thoroughly and watching NYCM on t.v. and in person and I just couldn't believe when I actually was one of the people running over the Verazzano!

So what's your goal? First Marathon? First NYCM? Training plan?

It starts!!!

Like JohnInNYC, this will be my fourth NYCM in a row, fifth marathon overall. And also like John, I've never really conquered this race. I've always had a great experience out there on the roads, just never really accomplished the time my training indicated I could accomplish. So another year, another plan to final beat the 4-hour barrier!!! That plan right now is to follow Pfitzinger 55 starting July 1 and also to spend a bit more time in the gym getting the rest of my body into as decent shape as the running parts of my body are! I'm feeling pretty motivated, so hopefully I'll stick to it!

Good luck to all the lottery folks tomorrow, and looking forward to chatting with everyone as our training progresses!!!

Hope I "win" the lottery. I don't feel good about my chances with 90,000 entrants. I read somewhere the odds are about 1 in 2, but it looks to me the odds this year are probably about 1 in 4 or 1 in 5, right?

I'm in too! This will be my second marathon; first was just last weekend in San Diego. Had an unbelievable and amazing experience and am looking forward to running around the neighborhoods where all my friends and I live!!!

Best of luck to everyone in their training!

I'm in!! Last year I watched my girlfriend run it and I felt like a lazy slob so I decided to throw my name in the lottery for this year.

It will be my first marathon and I am just looking to finish (well I would like to beat her time from last year, it was her first marathon too.)

Good luck to all!

I'm in and I am thrilled to bitsies!!! Using the Hal Higdon plan with a goal of 3.45 to 4. Only downside is training through the Arizona Heat. But hey....it's all worth it to run through those 5 historic boroughs! I remind myself that when my alarm goes off at 4am!!!

Hi,
I am also using the Hal Higdon plan and just started "officially" this week. This will be my first marathon too...any tips??? Any Manhattan runners have good courses that they recommend? I live downtown and would love to change up my route sometimes.

I'm so excited!

Lottery? Don't get it. As I just started running again after many years of doing nothing, I hope to be able to run in the 2007 NYCM. Good luck to you all that are running.

I'm in too! It'll be my 3rd (and all 3 will have been in a period of less than a year). I'm new at this but... Wow... I just love it! Also doing the Higdon program which I find just great as led me to the finish line of Richmond and San Diego. Also hoping for a PR! Just upset for my husband, who didn't make the lottery. Does anyone know if there might still be a chance? Do they draw the lots again for the spots of those who cancel?
