Kansas City Area Runners?

I am training for a half-marathon on October 7th and a full marathon on November 19th. I would love to have someone to run with (or chase) to keep me motivated.

Hey there, just another KC runner here.
I have been running the Overland Park trails, but need to move to a bit longer route for my long run on Saturdays. I'm thinking about trying either the Tomahawk or the indian trails - they look like they go on 10+ miles.
Any interest in group run around OP, leawood, Lenexa, Olathe?

I'm thinking about entering the Olathe Marathon in March.

Later...

They do indeed. When I lived in Lawrence I drove into OP to do my long runs fairly regularly. The Indian Creek trail in OP now hooks up with the segment in Olathe (at 119th and Quivira, I think) and goes quite some distance there; the only problem is that the mileposts are inconsistent from one city to the next (ignore the yellow ones completely). I haven't spent as much time on the Tomahawk trail but IIRC it's pretty cool.

I liked to start at Roe Park because there's a mile post right there.

Thanks GreenMan. I will try that trail this weekend, I have heard that it is one of the best in the state.
Today I ran 4 miles at the Tomahawk trail @ St. Andrews golf course (135th and Quivira) - really nice, it winds into some nice woods where I ran into some deer today.
Thanks for the recommendation, the Indian trail should be a good one for my 8 miler on Saturday.

Take care.

You can p/u a JOCO trail guide for about 1.00 at Gribbles at 119/Quivira. Indian Creek trail goes from about 155th and Lindenwood in Olathe and goes to State Line. It is marked pretty good in Olathe mile marker wise but am not sure it is true distance between the markers. Olathe is marked every half mile now. Last time I ran into OP on the trail there were no mile markers and when the trail split you had to gamble and try to figure out if it went to a neighborhood or it was the thru trail.

Enjoy your 8 miler.

My experience running in Olathe with my Fitsense pedometer is that the mile markers are indeed a mile apart; I didn't see the half-mile markers so they must not have been up yet last time I tried this, nearly two years ago.

Hmm; wonder if they took out the markers. That would be odd. Unless they're trying to make the OP and Olathe markers match up.

On trail splits, I had a simple rule that nearly always works: When in doubt, follow the creek. (There's one split around milepost 2.5-3.5? where the trail splits for about a mile, maybe around Lamar street? It goes on both sides of the creek and then converges again. The north branch is level; the south branch has a monster hill.)

Guys,
I just had an awesome 8 mile run today @ the Indian Trails. I did pick up a Trail Guide at Gribbles', thanks for the tip. I got into the trail right in front of the Running Sports store (119 and Quivira).
Anyhow, the trail rocks. Lots of activity, and a good amount of runners today.
Unfortunately I caught a guy taking a leak by the side of the trail, Geesh man, at least walk into the bushes for that!
It was a PR for me at that distance, even though I took it nice and easy (10:30/mile). I think the flatness of the trails helped me out.
Not to brag, but I got a Garmin 305 that works well for the distance so the miles markers are not that big and issue for me. It's a great toy.
Thanks again, and happy trails.

Nice job on the distance PR. It is a good trailsystem all tho cyclists are kind of heavy at times and speed by you w/o letting you know they are coming.
Mahaffie 10K &1/2 is next Sat at the Mahaffie Farmstead in Olathe. Good run and it uses part of the North gate trail system that starts near Mahaffie and goes N towards the Ks. River so good "hills" headed back south from College Blvd and Ridgview.

That 10K next week sounds good. I'm going to think about it.

Thanks!

I am planning on doing the 1/2. Watch the weather will be like it was last weekend crummy and raining. Unlike this weekend
