Line It's Friday. This is the best I can do.

The Tree Expert

Two tall trees are growing in the woods. A small tree begins to grow between them. One tree says to the other, "Is that a son of a beech or a son of a birch?"

The other says he cannot tell. Just then a woodpecker lands on the sapling. One of the tall trees says, "Woodpecker, you are a tree expert. Can you tell if that is a son of a beech or a son of a birch?"

The woodpecker takes a taste of the small tree. He replies, "It is neither a son of a beech nor a son of a birch. That, my friends, is the best piece of ash I have ever put my pecker in."

Hi 'Fly,

So far so good with the training. The last 2 sundays I have put in sucessive 20 milers, this weekend is a little more relaxing with a 20km, before next weekend which will be 36km before a serious taper!

Here's a question for the group... what is your position on a "sports massage" Is it worth it? When is it optimal? How long prior to one's first marathon (if ever)? My thought was to try to get one early next week before the 36km run. Any thoughts/advice?

Thanks

If you have the bucks, every week. If not, every month. Not having enough even for that, during your taper before you head off and definitely when you get back. If you can afford before your last long run, go for that too.

Sally

Yes! Just for explanation: I don't think that the expression reading rat exists in English. This is an idiomatic expression for people who love to read.

But Gomez: Did you realize what's there main business? I can't imagine that you like that. Oh, BTW this company is not too far away. I could pick up your orders! (Only that I couldn't get them into Canada. There is always this nasty question whether you carry animal parts with you).

Hi everyone !

I'm living in the South Shore (near Longueuil), and really new at running. I'm trying to learn as I decided some months ago to test myself as a duathlonian (duathlete ?).

Actually, I can't run a mile even for a cheese cake, but I'm trying ! Any advice are welcomed...

See you,

Manue

Welcome Manue! Sally's Right. I started running 3 years ago using the couch to 5K program here on cool running. I am on my way to my first marathon in Vegas in early Dec. Some days it feels like 3 years ago was 30 years ago, some days... it was yesterday.

By the way, nice pics there Sally & Mercury! The NYC pics are up at ASI. Nice Flag there Sally! Was it a special wicking flag?
