Saylorsburg, PA

On Sept 30, I'll find myself in Saylorsburg in need of completing my 20 miler to train for the Chicago marathon. Does anyone know a place to run for a good 5 or 10 mile loop? I'll be at hotel in, from what I understand, a pedestrian-unfriendly area.

Re: Saylorsburg, PA
You're out in the country!

If you have a car...make your way across Rt. 80 and up to Bushkill, which is on 209 north of East Stroudsburg.

What you get is a nice, flat (sometimes rolling hills) piece of road in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

The road is two lanes, and is travelled, but no trucks (as far as I know) are allowed. Depending on the time of day, there might not be much traffic. During the weekend, it might be heavier.

There are plenty of places to park your car. Including a general store near the entrance of the recreation area.

Beware that this road has NO services from the entrance point to the end, some 20 miles north in Milford, PA.

If you don't mind driving to find places...and big hills, near the rec-area, there is a road that runs from 209 to PA 402. Plenty of hills. Some BIG hills. But also a bit remote. So, cars are not an issue, but what IS an issue is, once again, services...and if you have a problem, you may not see a car for 15 minutes, 1/2 hour, or so. Also, cell phone service may be an issue (not sure about that one).

402...well, that road is more travelled (but, still, we're talking country here, so it's not like there are a LOT of cars). LOTS of hills (some that make my little car complain). Also, plenty of places (in spots) to get refreshments (water, gatorade, etc).

I envy you...there are (if you get out there) many cool places to run. There are also some nice trails in Tobyhanna State Park, and the Mt. Pocono area.

Good luck.
