Yep, birthday boy, nice evening for a run. Lots of stars, beautiful moon, full on Monday, great view of the city from the 450 - colder now, quite windy.

Note to self: checking out the night sky and navigating broken pavement don't mix.

Re: Montreal "cooler in winter" Runners
Congratulations to everyone who participated at the LaSalle event last week.

The Around the Bay event last Sunday proved to be a success. The conditions were ideal, overcast, cool, no wind nor rain. Despite having ran this event 3 years ago, the memory of the hilly course in the late stages of the run were very fresh to me.

Pacing proved to be more difficult than anticipated. This was especially true at the beginning of the event where I found myself going too fast and was reduced to exerting a mental effort to slow down.

With over 4000 runners I was never alone and got to see many runners from different running clubs including those in Montreal. Many runners were getting ready for Boston.

The hills were demanding but thankfully the hills my long runs prepared me properly for it. I am happy to report that I did not have to walk up the final hill. I did suffer though.

The finish in Copps Coliseum was a nice touch. This finish wasn't there when I ran it previously. However the steep descent and the hard right turn into the coliseum made things more complicated than required and reminded me of the entrance to the Olympic stadium during the festival de la sante.

Aside from setting a pb on this course, the most significant achievement was my ability to record a negative split. It's a great confidence builder and serves as evidence that I am capable of exercising discipline and not allow myself to be distracted by others during the event.

Let's hope that history can repeat itself in 3 weeks

I've heard calls for a Hurley's get-together ...

Two choices, let me know by end of day Sat.:
- Tuesday, April 3, 7pm or
- Wednesday, April 4, 7pm

Be there or be square!

Re: Montreal "cooler in winter" Runners
I felt guilty about not running, so I went out and ran one of my normal loops. I got one of my best times, if not the best! Not bad for the first run after a three week or so break! I am looking forward to more of these spring conditions.
